Ammo cost

If you load lead .40 and 9 and .45 are very similiaar in cost.
My .40 minor loads costs me bullets $92/1000 primers $40/1000 and Powder about $16/1000 for a total of $148/1000 or about $7.40/50.
9mm is about 7.20/50 and .45 around $7.90/50
.40 factory is going around $19-20/50 in my area if you buy bulk packs.
9mm is selling about 17/50 and .45 about $28/50 ouch.

so quite a savings IMHO

If you want cheap you can roll your own and cast your own bullets. Then they all cost about the same.

You just pay for primers and powder. Cost about 50 bucks or so per 1000.

45 ACP is the easiest to cast for.

i didn't find it cheaper to cast my own bullets, it was actually cheaper to buy them in bulk from wholesale sports. $90/1000 cast bullets. plus all the time and mess saved from casting them myself. but, some people enjoy casting their own, that's cool!

jbdd, + one on your experience. My fellow shooters and I cast our own and have a source of free lead (for now). With primers and powder our cost in BC is around $70/1,000. We average molding 1,000 heads in about 3-4 hours (using Lee 6 cavity tumble lube molds). As for .45 ACP being the easiest to cast, thats why I shoot a lot of 1911's!!!! Very very satisfying.
In our experience, if you want to shoot quantity, cost effectively - reload and mold lead heads.
.07 cents/rd for 9mm, .40 S&W & .45 acp vs. .045 cents for .22LR (from Walmart) - rather shoot the larger calibers for that extra .025 cents!!!!! That being said - time, patience and concentration are necessary to come out with quality reloads. Gotten a lot of good advise from fellow CGN'rs too.:sniper:

i need to start reloading. i have a dillon xl 650 set up for 40cal loads, but i also have 45acp and 9mm that i want to reload !! i have to get 2 more tool heads and 2 powder systems. so i can easily exchange the tool heads without readjusting everything!

anyone know of a good place to get these tool heads and powder systems?
