New Magpul AFG

Wow. That is a total Chris Costa special. I wouldn't get one for myself because I am set in my ways for how I hold my rifle. But I can think of a couple of friends who I'd give this to for Xmas. They totally swear by the Costa hold and this would really make their day. :D

If you're set in your ways you are set up to fail.

Whatever works for you is the best....

I don't know people get so uptight about which tacticool kit is best.

Everyone's physiology is different, people carry different configurations on their rifle/carbine and so whatever type gives you more consistency and comfort will make you shoot better.

I call BS. We're all built the same. Unless you have a physical handicap due to accident/injury or some other event, we all bend the same way in the same places. An effective hold or stance doesn't have to be comfortable which is why many fail to understand or adopt a superior form.

Wow. What an astounding level of condescension.

And what does failure mean in your world TDC?

Failure in this case would be ones inability to maximize their effectiveness in achieving a goal due to a FAILURE to evolve and advance the skill(s) and skill set required to achieve said goal.

Let me break it down. Sticking with what you "know" and blindly dismissing a new style or technique without first trying it will set you up to fail. Of course if there isn't a defined goal then failure isn't a concern.

I will try one out, I wanted the KAC handstop for the same reason the vert grip is not really for me

Damn good points, TDC!

Any change to grip, stance, etc. normally results in discomfort until the act becomes unconsious through repetition. The discomfrot stems from a lack of unconscious competence.

That being said, not every shooter can adopt a certain stance, grip etc. There ARE inherent differences in physiciology based on size, strength, musculature and flexibility. However, it doesn't mean that an individula can't take a new stance or grip and adapt it to where it works optimally for them.

i have been told by a few shooters my style is weird...I am bendy My ex wife was/is a yoga teacher..lol I will try and use anything that makes me faster/better...if my gear dont work it goes to the EE!

Right. An aggressive forward support hand grip is optimal. For some extending their arm to full length would compromise their ability to support the rifle. As you mention, adapting a technique to the best of your ability is the key. Extending your support grip as far forward as is possible while maintaining support and control of the rifle is all one can expect. The rifle in question is also a factor. A full extension on an 11" SBR is a lot easier than on a 20" rifle.

Understanding the science behind why a technique is superior is often the difference between dismissing it due to discomfort and adapting it to achieve the best results for the individual.

That forearm thing seems counter intuitive to me. The left arm is way over streched and the right shoulder is hunch up.

Because he's tensing up, it may give him a bullet time effect(Matrix, Max Payne). But comfort and endurance will suffer in my opinion, its not worth it. You might get back problems shooting like that too. Streching your ligaments and all that...

Honestly, if Christ Costa finds himself in a real firefight, he'll forget all that crap technique... it just won't work in the real world. I recon it'll only work in static controlled IPSC type ranges etc, real word is way more dynamic.

Same with Travis Haley, I guess...if that guy ever sees an actual gunfight all his fancy techniques will disappear and he will no doubt just curl up in to a little Mag-bal.

IF he ever sees combat. I believe he was previously in an airsoft battalion before working for Magpul, and Chris Costa was just a paintball competitor.

I currently have a railed foregrip on my pump action shotgun (a mag fed grizzly 15"). I never liked the feel of a normal vartical grip on a shotgun but this AFG kind of looks comfortable to me. I don't think I would use it on my rifles though.

they mostly coast guard. and you know what they say about sailors.... ;)

but in reality, he is correct. if god forbid they have to fight real war against opponent of equal strength grips and silly tacitcal ballet sequences have no meaning. all you need is lots of ammo, cover and tranquilizer
