Stevens 200 or Marlin XS7 / XL7?

Both of these guns have a good reputation and are good value for money. If you can find a shop or shops that have them in stock, go and handle them and buy whichever feels like it fits you better. Whatever accuracy a rifle may be capable out of out of a bench vise, you will realise more of its potential if it actually fits you well.

Dunno if its working for you but the link comes up with "Internet explorer can not display the web page"

Anyhow, I went out and found that WSS did have them, in stock too as a matter of fact. I was lucky in that I got the last camo one in .308 they had.
And this is what followed me home...Thnx Santa!! ;)

I dunno if I'm allowed to spout off but the gun was priced at $429 but at the cash there was a promo on to "Save twice the GST"...So out the door was $404ish :D
Adjustable trigger down to 2 1/2 lbs too. Very nice recoil pad. Can't wait to give it a try.

I just checked the N Ed store - no .308's (and had the rudest, litte punk-a$$ salesman ever...I now understand why people complain about WSS).

About to try S Ed...I do prefer the feel to the Stevens and passed on a $300 stevens in .270 at the gun show today.

Just checked?....lol...coz i got the last one around 12:30 12:45
And the kid who served me was great...tall thin guy with longish black hair. Very polite and helpful.

That guy did look friendly...not the grumpy pissy chap who helped me!

You bought the camo verison? I'm looking for the black synth stock...

Don't pooh on the Mossberg ATR, it's on sale at Cabela's Canada for $269 in either 270 or 30-06. It has reviewed comparbley to the Marlin and Stevens in the magazines. I guess it's based on an older Charter Arms design.

Hmmmm, too many reports of bolt handles coming loose...a bit of a safety issue. The bolt collar is splined then compressed onto the bolt body which is not splined! Seems inevitable that they will come loose. Its a shame as they do seem like acceptable rifles otherwise and I would pick one up to try it out.

I just ordered one up to try out, so I'll post back my findings. I did find some complaints both here and through google searches on the ATR. But I did find complaints about the Stevens and the Marlin too. In fact, my Stoeger 2000 gets ripped on the internet, but mine is stone reliable and I would recommend one to anybody.
