Is a Norinco 1911A1 any good?

The 1911 is by nature a very reliable and accurate design, the norinco is really very good. the finish is not going to be a fine as a more expensive one. Bu the accuracy is excellent.

I love my 1911 Norc Commander. It is a very accurate gun and feels good in my hand. I own other handguns ,but I really like to shoot this one. For the price you really can't go wrong. It also has had a trigger job done.

I still have two,a commander and a nine mil. I also had an original standard model that when I first got it would jam on the last shell ejected but that was oly the clip. When I replaced the mag with a colt mag no more problem.

If you are not brand-name conscious, and are not affected by range snobs, then go buy that Norkie 1911.

Norincos (most, if not all their firearms) are the best bang for the buck, as most have said.

I like the Norinco 1911 so much I bought a second one. They are the best bang for the buck, but I love my Colt too.

You might consider purchacing from Armco. His tightening, lightening & smoothing is worth the little extra,....believe me!

I am of the exact same opinion!

Last year I ordered my Norinco on-line and while I was waiting for it, I came across and purchased a new Colt Series 70 Repro - an extremely beautiful unit! It made me think I should not have bothered with the Norinco - but it was too late.

When the Norc arrived, I was very disappointed, BUT NOT for the reason you might think - it was because the Norinco was of far, far better quality than I had imagined. The 800 dollar price difference did not really seem justified. In fact, I started to think, if I had it to do all over again, I would not have purchased the Colt. Mind you, I did get over that thought, and resigned myself to the fact that I now had TWO great guns.

As an aside; I had even found myself taking the Norinco to the range and leaving the Colt home in the safe; thinking I was saving the Colt from unnecessary wear and tear. After a while, I came to the conclusion that the real reason was, I just plain liked using the Norinco!

In my opinion, you will never go wrong with the Norc. And as has been said, I will always love my Colt, but given the availability Norinco's, the "The Rush to Colt" can be notched down a little.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I bought the Norinco 1911 they had at wholesale sports. Hopefully i will be able to pick it up Monday.

I really like that custom grip. would would you mind telling me where you bought it up? Or any websites that sell aftermarket parts for the 1911?

Thanks!

I ordered the Walnut grips & the Flat MSH from Marstar.....
The black pair of grips came with the gun purchaced from ARMCO which also sells a lot of 1911 parts/accessories.....
I believe they might be from Ajax Grip Co.

I think of all the norinco's the sport or police 2 tone model is the best deal goin. It has an extended slide and mag release, Ambi safety and functions perfectly. The chrome barrel is a nice touch as well. It also has the best finish of all the norinco's and comes with some aesthetic features that other brands don't. I would highly recommend one.

I got my brand new Norinco 1911A1 from a local dealer on sale for $300. Took it to my buddy who shot competition 1911's for years. We took my new one out of the plastic and stripped it to the bare frame then degreased and lubed it as I put it together under his close supervision. We installed a Commander hammer, adjusted the mag release and polished the trigger parts. A trip to the range had me tweaking the factory mags and that took care of feed issues. I later ordered & installed a beavertail grip safety all on my own. At the range, I can hit the steel as well as the guy next to me with the $$$$ 1911, LOL! My next venture will be the sights...here's a pic (crappy phone camera)

is it important to clean off all the factory grease and oil it up before the first use? Because i didn't do that. After the first use I stripped the entire thing down and thoroughly cleaned and oiled it. and hopefully put it back together correctly.

I don't think it'll hurt it. We stripped this one down so he could eyeball every part closely before it ever saw a round. That first trip to the range, I had a few feeding issues with the Norinco mags but he gave me an aftermarket one and it fed flawlessly. Just had to tweak the lips on the factory ones to get them to feed properly and haven't had any problems since. Just fill 'er up and hammer away.
