Federal ammunition company did some 100 meter simulation test using ballistic gel with hide on the outside and cow shoulder bones in the gel. They used TSX, Ballistic Tip, Trophy Bonded and one other. Surprisingly the BallisticTip showed better penetration than expected and also created the biggest shockwave. The TSX had the best penetration but had the least shockwave. You might still find the video on their website

By "shockwave" I guess you mean temporary wound cavity. I'd really like to see those tests if you have a link. As for gel, it's not hard to get but I hear it's pretty pricey.

Mucho expensive stuff. The on-line How-to's using supermarket gelatin are nonsense. It's not the same stuff.
The manufacturers have done all the testing necessary anyway.

Ya the stuff kids are making seems great for pellet testing, but for larger qty, mythbuster video pretty much gave all the details.
