I copied this off an ATV site. A JULY posting. What ever happened with this?

A letter has been sent out by the RCMP to at least some owners of shotguns who have short barreled shotguns currently registered as non-restricted. Someone there has apparently made an arbitrary decision to reclassify them as prohibited and has sent out notices to that effect.

If you or anyone you know has received such a notice contact Tony Bernardo as noted below, or let me know and I will pass the information on.

Old news .
Guns in question were X-police shotguns that the police dept illegally cut down the barrels then sold them . Just the barrels are considered prohibited . But CFC tried to prohibit the complete gun . I believe if the barrels were turned in the owners could keep the the rest

Not even the barrels are considered prohibited. The gun was considered a prohibited weapon with the chopped barrel attached, but unattached, the barrel is simply a "part."

Wildbore is correct on this one. Even the Crown Attorney I was dealing with on the matter admitted that the barrel itself is not a prohibited item as per the CC.

I think all of us involved have either re-registered or are waiting on court dates. I gave my challenge up when I got disclosure and re-registered mine as frame only. I'm going to get either a 14" Rem police or 12.5" Dlask barrel after Xmas and get her going. My old barrel is rusting away as it will never be mounted again...

Sad situation but what can you do? The incompetence of the CFC allowed us all to buy prohibs, but we pay in the end as always.
