I had an opportunity to check out the new BDX manufactured 124 gr fmj today. Mike B was showing off bullets he's picked up from smacdonald.

They look very nice indeed. The jackets appear to be brass. The base is rolled. The nose has a very slight dimple.

I can't wait to hear how they shoot. I'm still fully stocked with AIM 147 gr bullets, but when I run out, if BDX have the 147 in production, I may have to test drive a box.

i shot about 40 of the test bullets. out of a ransom rest at 23 yards shooting 38 supper and 40 mph wind gusting to 60 i shot a 2 inch vertical group by 1 inch wide. i would guess some of the verticle was from the target rocking back and forth. i had no failures to feed out of the ransom or shooting free style.

here is a picture of the target:

Two things to remember when looking at this group. the first thing is that these were preproduction bullets. he was fine tuning the bullets and this information was used as well.

the next thing is to remember that the wind was blowing. those of you who shot the 2008 Nationals in Lethbridge know what the winds can be like down here. The target was moving around pretty good in the wind as it was just in a target stand and on lathe. In hindsight i probably should have mounted the target to a pallet so that it wouldn't move around.

He has stated that the bullets will be available after ample supply is built to allow for contract fulfillment and internal loading requirement. Some may trickle onto select retailers shelves but dont expect to see a ton of them hitting the market all at once....
