Lol, how many of you went to the Shotgun EE after reading this thread? Even if you had a different plan, how many went just to check? lol

I need help, my wife is going to leave me. :)

Firearm shopping is still exciting even if one is looking for an old beater that will never get used!

.... make sure there's someone to drive you to the hospital afterwards. You evidently don't know much about how animals act when they are in distress. Might work in SOME cases but I wouldn't temp it should you misjudge the situation and condition of the animal.
 
Made me a shorty tonight. Remington 812 now 18 1/2 inches of barrel.

Gonna put some light tiger striping on it tomorrow and she will be done. Gonna figure out what I wanna do with the sights later. All said and done it was free to do because I used the rest of the paint my cousin had left from when he painted his tree stand.

Thought of a new You Might Be a Redneck joke while I was painting it.

If you ever find yourself hanging a shotgun from the light fixture in your living room so you can spray paint it ..... you might be a redneck lol.

WRT to the NB laws. Similar in NL.
You need a permit to carry or transport a firearm unless during an open season for which you are licensed and the firearm is a legal gauge/caliber for the licensed game.
You need a permit from the DNR to shoot targets / sight in, on crown land.
Technically, you need a permit to bring your new gun home from the store / to the gun club, etc.
 
get a coach gun man it is made by stoger and is perfect for small spaces i have one and extremely recomend it to you.
 
I once bought a single shot Cooey 12ga at a gunshow for $35. the barrel was ringed. I cut the barrel at 20" to get rid of the ring and to make it more compact. For many yeasr it was in the back of my airplane as part of my survival kit (packed in an old hockey gear bag.)

It was dead simple, and I carried a variety of ammo for it, including flares. I never needed it, although i was once forced down in a field in the middle of nowhere becasue of low cloud. I spent 3 days camped under my plane, shooing the buffalo away.

When the clouds cleared out I discovered the white mountains i had glimpsed going down was actually Mount Rushmore.
 
I just want to say I don't disagree with the philosophy of having a weapon with you when you are a responsible registered owner. The thing is if you happen to be stopped for a traffic infraction or involved in a minor collision and for some reason the trunk is looked into, you are going to have a hard time rationalizing having a firearm in there if you are not on your way to, or from a range. In the interm it will be confiscated and you might be looking at charges as well as weather you are competent to keep your other firearms as well as own any thereafter. I am surprised a moderator hasn't interjected, but I'll leave well enough alone. I do not keep any firearms in my vehicle, but I keep a stock of pepper spray, a couple survival knives and a 2 foot broom handle for just in case. I've never had to use them, but my 65 year old father was choked through his window by a raging driver (which is why I don't pack).

I came accross an injured deer in town at 7:45am and heard it was still there by 11:00 that day. Of course I couldn't run home for one of my weapons, but it hurt my heart to see it and to know it waited that long to be done in. I can't condone having a "trunk gun", but I'm not a cop and regardless, I feel we have the right to bear arms, just let us not exploit that lest our freedoms become more restricted.

I don’t mean to step on toes. I have jumped through the hoops and shed the cash for what I have. I feel that I have proven I am stable, hard working and have no intention of screwing it up and loosing it all, but should my vehicle be stolen... I'm as much a turd as a shameless parent who left my child unprotected while I was shopping if I harbor a weapon. No one will steal my child and no one will commit a crime with my weapon. Some things are beyond our control, so keep the control; laws are there FOR you not against you. These are the times we live in.

I'm sorry my brothers in arms... that is my point of view.

I think there could be a rural / urban division here. I live in an urban area and there's no way I'd leave a firearm in a vehicle. There's no point in carrying one in the trunk either as there's nothing you can legally do with it. We've seen high risk take downs of people with a microphone in a car and a man with a lego pistol that made the mistake of holding it by his window. Imagine a shotgun in the trunk!
In the country things are different. Marauding bears, vehcle injured wildlife etc.
You could probably explain the knives (cutting food?) , the pepper spray (protection against dogs?) , but the section of broom handle might get you in a spot. it looks like a weapon.You might be better off with a 5 cell maglight or some piece of sporting equipment; hockey stick, golf club etc.

Agreed.
I've been stopped with all this gear, but the broomstick was the only one noticed and questioned... I told the truth (my friend left in in here).
I sure wouldn't want to explain a firearm though weather I looked like Willy Nelson in drag, or Steven Seagal in uniform.
 
OK I guess I have to wade in here.
Forcedair is kind of spot-on here, remember the original question had to do with dispatching some poor unfortunate deer, at very close range, for the purpose of a humane death for the animal.
This is something you won't be trying on the corner of Granville & Georgia, so given that you would be using this firearm (it's not a weapon till you attack someone with it) in an appropriate setting, a shotgun is by it's very nature a great short range firearm. Perfect for the job!
As for parking on, or asphyxiating the poor little bugger, gimme a break!
Shoot him!
As long as you have all your paperwork in order, you are perfectly within your rights to have a legally owned firearm with you if you transport it in a locked and out of sight condition.
There are of course Municipal, and Provincial "no-shoot" areas to be concerned about, but for the sake of humanity I think it's worth the risk.
Had to do it myself this last September.
