EMT ONLY?? Doesn't anyone take an alternative method around here??

i was never a fan of giving out my bank account details. ever since the nigerians with their sleezy scams, i've been really hesitant on giving out that information.

how do you guys feel about giving out your banking info ?? creeps me out.

As a seller, EMT is best, but I will happily accept any way the buyer wants, MO, cheque, whatever.

As a buyer, I like to do EMT, but will happily mail a money order out if that is how you want it.

As a person, I want to go with the flow. I know you have a life and will ship to me when you are able. I try to ship out items in a timely fashion, well packaged.

Here there is only a credit union, the nearest bank is 500kms to the east. A5.5 hr drive in the good weather.
I spoke with the C.U. yesterday was told about money transfers, an like others have said they don't like to give out account details .
I have to drive 38kms to the Post an 74 kms to the C.U.
We have to get out of the car walk into where the mail is waiting, WOW a little exercise .

we are in the world of speed. where money is needed yesterday. i need it fast, and I send it fast. i have a life, but i also have an extra 10 minutes to go to that post office and ship that package as fast as humanly possible. let's not wait, just do it, just get out there and send send send, it's easy! let's do it QUICK!

"I have the money, you have the package, so what's the problem? let's do it quiiiiick!!"

Who even accepts direct deposits as payment for private sales these days?

I only give my bank info out to the government, my employer, and other financial institutions. That kind of information is on a need-to-know basis, and some random Joe with an item I want to buy doesn't need to know.

I have done several deals here on CGN with direct deposit.

I've done EE deals (both ways actually) paid by EMT, bank MO, Post Office MO, direct deposit at a bank branch, personal cheque, and face to face with cash.

EMT is BY FAR the best and most convenient of all these.

(FRAUD ALERT) can disappear 5 minutes from now, I won't be disappointed.

Oh I'm not slagging those who are willing to offer direct deposit as a payment method. Clearly it's an option for those whose banks do not offer EMT. It just seems like such a roundabout method of transferring money when EMT (or even the dreaded (FRAUD ALERT)) is simpler and quicker, and never exposes the seller's banking information.

Come to think of it, direct deposit is the only payment method aside from (FRAUD ALERT) that I've never accepted for private sales. I've taken cash (sometimes large quantities of it), MO, personal cheque, and EMT. As Silverado says, EMT is easily the most convenient of the bunch.

cheques should be banned ;) lol sorry, i have never written out a cheque before, who takes them in the real world? i've done just fine without them.

EMT IS QUEEN! go E-M-T !

I don't understand the whole "secure" part of EMT. If somebody doesn't ship you what they say they will but rather just takes your money, how are you protected? This is particularily relevant since an unprecidented amount of online fraud has been happening. I had a scammer on the hook and the local police wouldn't help, RCMP wouldn't help and the Internet Fraud Division of the RCMP wouldn't help. They asked me one question "Have you lost any money?", "No", "Consider yourself lucky, we can't do anything for you."

(FRAUD ALERT) has insurance, I have personally used it before and it works.

we believe in feedback scores, at least i do. you always take a chance when sending money. does (FRAUD ALERT) insurance still cover a sale of a firearm ? i would check into that.

It's secure for the seller. As a seller, EMTs are great because you know they're drawn from funds that exist and the only thing you expose is your email address (you can always use a disposable email address). The money comes instantly and it's extremely difficult for someone to fraudulently reverse the payment. You also cannot fake an EMT transfer, unlike cheques, MOs, or even cash.

As a buyer it's not offering you any more protection than any other payment method. If you're the buyer, you still need to do your due diligence in researching the seller and getting his contact information, regardless of which payment method you use.

But this whole thread is about sellers, and the numerous reasons above are why sellers almost universally prefer EMT over other payment methods. Personally I'd rather take EMT than cold hard cash.

you got it man, well said tritium. cold hard cash is a thing of the past. but it's nice because it's not traceable.

I'll bet most who would use (FRAUD ALERT) are funding their PP account from a credit card.

Not to say that they can't afford their purchases, but I can't see any other reason why PP would be preferable.

It isn't because (FRAUD ALERT) is secure. Its not.

A few years ago I did 1 (FRAUD ALERT) transaction for $US 10.00, using my , ahem, credit card for funds. When I returned home after 2 months work there were 350 + transactions on my CC for 8 euros through some greasy Spanish merchant. Fortunately I had funded (FRAUD ALERT) with a credit card and the CC company reversed all the charges and issued me a new card.

If you are going to patronize the gun hating people at PayPrick I'd suggest you do use a credit card so you don't get burned.

The deals that I have made were the buyer asks for (FRAUD ALERT) are areas were there are not banks, and in those areas, a money transfer is much quicker then sending a payment in the mail.
