.223 sks curiosity

Prohib why bother having one for .223?

Because of NB's stupid varmint hunting rules . . . only less than .23 caliber rifles allowed in bush with a varmint licence if your bear, moose, and deer tags are filled, or the season is over.

I want a folding stock so I can take it on my dual sport bike easily. I have already done the "disassemble a 12 gauge" routine, and it's a pain in the rear end. And, my .22 mag (an Israeli K98) is hardly an easy rifle to carry discreetly on a motorcycle.

Even IF you would find a SKS in .223, people would be all over it and probably go for twice the price or more than a normal one.

Honestly, I would love one too. There was a CQ 311 on EE for something like $600 but I guess you are looking for something cheap and you can't hunt with a restricted (just came to my mind, bummer, now I remember why I don't want an AR).

Yeah, I think there is a market, SKS in .223, hmm, maybe somebody can enlighten us how much it would cost to rebarrel and what else.

I am getting kind of excited here.

Then all you have to do is find a way to attach an LAR-15 10 round magazine to it and you're ready to rock and roll :D

Off hand I can think of a few non restricted mag fed .223 semi autos that come with factory folding stock, and a few that you can get aftermarket folders. Why do you need it to be a SKS?

Here's a Mini-14 with an ATI folding stock

Or, if you prefer the A-Team look, you could try finding one of the Ruger factory folders like I bought for mine.

These are hard to find, and will probably cost you $500 or so for one, when they pop up on the market.

Hey guys.

How much would I expect to pay for an SKS in .223?

Where would I look?

What kind of accuracy could I expect?

I know they made them and imported them here. . .

AR180B, Mini-14, AR-15 would be probably cheaper.... than newly made SKS... Keep in mind, that SKS is cheap only because it was mass produced for the army and now is obsolete.

If he's planning on varmint hunting, the AR-15 is out of the question until we get the laws changed. I definitely agree on both the AR180B and Mini-14; I own both and they are great guns . I've also seen a few SL8 rifles for sale in several shops in NB, though now you're looking at paying over $2000, and it's not as compact as the Mini-14. I guess it really depends on his budget.

Go with the Mini-14 in 223. It will shoot as good as or better than the SKS. You can hunt with it, not restricted, where allowed. Lots of accessories available.

Actually, the Mini 14 with an A-Team factory folder (or even a Choate) and one of those nice little removable scope mounts that holds their zero would be about my dream rifle.

Trouble is, such a setup would set me back waaayyyyyyy more than I can afford in the forseeable future. That's why I was curious about the price of the .223 SKS. I know Norinco stopped importing them because they didn't sell well, and therefore there aren't many around . . . but I also faintly recall seeing one for sale on here once.

I figured on using the .223 for shooting black bears over bait in the spring as well (obviously with premium ammuniton). Otherwise, I might just sell my k98 and buy a .22 magnum 10/22 . . . but I can't use a rimfire on bears, obviously. At least, not legally.
