I usually tumble for 4-8 hours depending on the brass. One time I forgot and tumbled for three days, shiny shiny brass.

Usually about 2-3 hours but like Farincharge sometime the tumbler has run for a day. If you need to run it more than 3 hours you have either very dirty brass or it is time to change your media.

My countdown timer is set for 1:15. I use this with treated walnut, then finish with a few minutes in untreated walnut to ensure there is no abrasive left behind.

First I did 4 hrs. Now just 2hrs. I'm also using 3-4 cap fulls of nu-finish with Lyman green corn cob (now looks black).

I dunno about what most people do here, but I've seen many pics of people tumbling in the basement near their presses. First time, I did it in garage. I later said forget that and outdoors it went. Hope tumbler don't mind the cold (will be tumbling in cold soon too). It's in the shed for storage.

I've accidentally left it running with walnut and polishing compound for the better part of a week. Polished the nickel plating right off the cases!!!!

Never had any success with nufinish, now just use walnut with Lyman Turbo Brite (for untreated media) because in the big bottle it is about the cheapest polish around. Have also used some Dillon polish.

Tumble for a few hours, can be up to half a day or more for corroded range pickup brass.

Often finish with corncob for 15 minutes for really shiny brass.

I am an ex tumbler. I bought a Lee Case trimmer, and I put the shell holder in the cordless drill, a little brass polish and they look new. Tumbler has not run since.

What is your reason for this? Too noisy, or something else?

Just be careful about POLISHING the brass. All you really want to do is clean it. Super shiny polished as smooth as chrome is not doing you any favors. It is too smooth. You need the brass the grip the chamber walls to keep it from literally flowing when you fire a shot. Excessively polished brass will shorten case life by over stretching it, and possibly causing a head seperation.

So just give it a good clean. I typically do mine a couple of hours until it is CLEAN...not polished. You want it to have a grip to the chamber wall.
