I recently acquired a Finnish Mosin Nagant model 1891. It's an American one which was built by New England Westinghouse. But oddly enough it still has the original stock (by original I mean not artic birch or spliced, except for a repair), and still retains a stock/unit/rack disc. I have never seen a Finn with the disc remaining.

Is this rare? or is it common?

Pics below, it has seen quite a bit of use since 1915-1916 when it was built, but the barrel is in very nice shape and is counter bored.

Yeah my camera is garbage, ha.

At the top of the disc it says "R.E.S"
The middle number is "85"
And the bottom says "Huoltor" Anyone here speak Finnish?

try looking on 7.62x54r.net - If they dont have anything on the site, you can send pictures in and see what they have to say.

Try to use the macro or close-up setting for these.
You can usually access it by pushing a small button with a flower symbol at the back of the camera.
Get some good light, it helps.

Well, im not sure how common the disk is on the Finnish Nagant, yours is about the second one I've seen with a disk ...but the Finns did use a disk on thier subguns ..... I've seen them on the Soumi subguns.

Finnish stock disk markings indicating unit issued with.
