Alright. So this year i used remington accutip, no good for close range all they did was poke a tiny hole in the deer the size of the bullet. So i need suggestions. for next year, i was thinking the A-frames cause they look like they will go through 3 foot thick steel wall. Which is what i need and they have a shiny silver case i like it alot. So has anybody ever used theses on deer or moose. If so tell me about it and im open to suggestions on oter remington shells too.

thank you

The onloy problem i have with federal is there brass. Ive had to many rims break on me with them

You have had the rims break? Please tell us a bit more....caliber, federal load....really curious about this type of failure as I have never heard of it in standard hunting loads.....

Really?? I took a buck at about 100 yards with a premier accutip this season, there was so much exit wound trauma that I was glad it was a neck shot or I would have wasted a lot of the shoulder meat.

Depending on caliber, for deer wouldn't the cheap core lokts not be adequate? If its a 30 cal they would also work on moose??

ya i've made up my mind on the plastic tips. I'd use the partitions except the lead nose sticks out to far. And will get all bent up goin into the chamber. And im a remington man.

Ive never heard of factory ammunition that "sticks out too far" and that gets bent up going into a chamber .

If you think the accutip does not expand fast enough, why switch to controlled expansion bullet like the swift ?

What cartridge are you using? Bullet weight? Range?

You might consider two different loads, one deer and another for moose. Deer are much certainly easier to kill than a 3' piece of steel, so maybe the A-frame might be too much bullet. Most times a plain old Remington Core-lokt will kill deer quite dead. Save the premiums for the moose hunt.

And just how does a "shiny silver case" improve your ballistic problems?

It sounds like you recovered the deer...how far did you have to track him?

You wont' make a mess out of him with corelocks and powerpoints if you stay off the shoulder.

I can tell first hand that Nosler Ballistic tips and Hornady SST's expand very well on broad side Deer shot.

What game animal has 3 foot thick body armor?

Stay away from premium ammo for deer. It's a waste of money. Good old Winchester Power Points or Remington Core Lokts work just fine. Pick a heavier for caliber bullet like a 180 grain for .30 caliber and have at it. Standard lead core bullets have worked for over a century and still do.

I would try them out at the range and see which perform best in your gun.

I got a 30-06, im looking at the 180 grain A-frames i think they will do well doesn't anybody els think they will. All they are is a soft point with a piece of copper in the middle so they don't break apart.
