Model 84S. There is a kink in every case that is ejected. Is this normal or does it need some adjustment? Thanks.

PJ

"...this normal..." Pretty much. The case is whacking the receiver on its way out. Happens with most semi-autos. Not really anything to worry about.

it is more prevelant in firearms that use a fixed ejector like the SKS ,HK,SIG RIFLES and the AK .The reasoning is that fixed ejectors provide positive ejection but the downside is that for reloaders it damages brass

Had one, it did that everytime, still have all the cases but wasnt sure if the brass was still good for reloading...it dosent just dent the case, it creases the brass. Ive never seen ANY semi-auto that dinged cases like an 84S Is this brass safe to reload?

I assume you're shooting this in the states?

Had a hakim that beat the tar out of the brass. With the gas setting on full it would almost fold the brass. Annoyed me to no end.

you had that problem with yours too eh, mine was annoying that way ...my Hakim and Lunjgman had the same prob too, folded the brass bad and riped a notch in the rim from the extractor...what about the SKS anyone have that problem with them?

My yugo m59 use to mangle brass like crazy. Still worked beautifully though otherwise.

Yah - once I figured out the sweet spot for the gas setting it was ok, still abused the brass though.

As for the sks, seems to be fine. It tosses them strait out without smacking on the gun - though I've only ever shot reloadable brass in my sks once.

84s is .223. As I recall from when I owned one in the far off 1980s, mine would nearly fold the brass in the middle as it pivoted against the receiver cover on the way out. Gas system was considerably over powered in that calibre. I solved the problem at the time by drilling a small relief hole in the gas block on each side just forward of the piston head. After that there was much less damaged brass and the rifle functioned just fine.

has anyone here ever had issues with the feed on thier sks my old one used to stove pipe and bend the shell real bad ....did it with a liveround one time and kinked it so bad it emptied the powder down in the works of the gun....im asuming ak sks most any semi could have this issue.

The Holy Hakim Case Crusher...

As long as it is not your thumb or any other finger, you're OK. ;)
For still reloadable brass, just tune the gas system AND tape a big chunk of polyethylene foam water pipe insulating tubing around the case deflector.
Not pretty but sure beats shucking your precious brass in the refuse bin.
PP. :)

I put a 1/8" layer of black RTV silicone on the body cover of my Valmet right behind the ejection port. This provides a cushion for the brass as it comes out of the ejection port (rotating sideways at high speed) and nearly eliminated the dent.

If I ever want to get the silicone off I will soak it in diesel for a few minutes.

haha - I like the parallel theme running in this thread:p

Yah - eventually did that. I got tired of having to chase the rds all over gods green acre and stopped shooting it.

First day I got it though, had my thumb in the action wndering how it works, poked the dust cover just enough to release the bolt assembly... ended up doing the dance of pain with a rifle locked onto my thumb all over the room. There's still blood in the carpet I believe. o

damn....are we all like that did the same thing when I got my Hakim ....and when I got the AG42b...didnt learn the first time.

He lives in New BrunswicK. Maybe he got an ATT to take it by boat to international waters.

Maybe he's referring to times past when you could do this:( Even if this isn't the case, we shouldn't hassle people for exersizing their (inherent)property rights, despite what some unelected, unaccountable bureaucrat says....complying with an immoral law is in itself immoral!

What someone does with their own legally bought and paid for property isn't our business, particularly if they're not hurting/threatening anyone. Just my 2 cents worth.
