So I took my hunters course this summer (Boring as hell!)

I was told that I'd have to wait until the new year to get a three year outdoors card / three year hunting and fishing tags. No big deal, since my fishing lic is still good until the new year, and I wasn't planning on hunting until the new year anyways.

Can I do it before Jan 01, or do I have to wait it out a bit more? I'll actually have time off to go down to the local ServiceOntario office

Thanks in advance.

DO NOT get the tags UNTIL JAN 1ST! If you buy them now, you will be buying a 2009 tag which will give you 15 days before it expires.

And seeing as you had no interest in the hunting course, I hope you picked a few things up still.

It's real easy to do it online.

When you have recovered Jan 1 from your headache. buy it online and print it off. Wait for your card to arrive in the mail

Have to go into a service ontario first to hand them proof of completing the course before they will hand you a temporary version of the hunting outdoors card. Then you can buy licences online, or while your at the service ontario, buy them there. Also while you are there, see if you can apply for the deer draw in your area, and also apply for a moose tag in some random wmu close to Toronto even if you dont plan on moose hunting for a couple years. Better to do it now then later.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the course - I didn't learn anything I didn't already know, so it was kinda boring. Actually, I was kind of surprised at the slow pace the course had, I kinda figured they would try to ram a lot more in.

Why? I only intend on small game over the next few years. My real motivation for taking the course was to be able to legally harvest small game when I'm out in the woods (being a good gunnut, I always have a gun with me in the woods :))

When I was given my temp "card" with my tags on it I was told that I would recieve my hunting fishing card by the end of the year. I recieved it today with my 2009 fishing licence on it, should be able to get your 2010 fishing tag on that card once you get it?

Maybe you'll want to go out with some friends deer hunting in the fall and would like a doe tag. With the moose you need to apply for a couple consecutive years before your put in "pool 1", so who knows, maybe in a few years you'd like to have a shot at getting a adult tag. Plans change over time.

I know small game and fishing tags can be bought ahead of time...not sure about the cards.

Try to Call 1-800-387-7011 -Outdoor Card Center... and ask them.

why would you give your money away in you have no plans on that style of hunting

When I first started hunting I also just wanted to stick to small game. Then I met more and more people who hunted and since I had a hunting licence I was invited out to go moose/deer hunting with them. Plans change, and 3 years is allot of time for rabbit hunting.

I just renewed my three year outdoors card and small game license in November, and I checked online.

It says I'm good until December 31, 2012....three full years. But I don't think my current license expired until end of this year.

but any half decent camp would not expect a first timer to have tags ready to go.you buy your tag you can still shoot something on your first year hunting
