Many years ago I got to try out another guys Co2 powered shotgun. It held 2 co2 canisters under the barrel and the shells were shaped basically like a top hat and filled with small pellets (101/2 or smaller just bigger than dust really) If I remember correctly the barrel slid forward and backwards in the action to load and eject a shell and I am almost positve it was made by Crossman. Anybody have one or know what it is or if they even still exist. Thanks Rob

Yup - you have it all correct.

The Crosman model 1100 - patterned after the Remington 1100. The shot shells were available in three different shot sizes - #8, #6, and #4. The shot shells were colour coded red, yellow and green for the different shot sizes. You could also get a thrower to launch a two piece, bright yellow, plastic skeet bird into the air. When hit, the outer ring of the bird would separate, indicating a hit. The bird could then be snapped back together for re-use. A bit more rare, but Crosman also made some miniature clay birds for these as well. These were very fragile, and had a very low survival rate, so they are not often seen nowadays.

These shotties can also fire a .375" lead ball at speeds just under 500 FPS.

They can still be found on the used market, in the $300 range.

I have a very nice boxed specimen of a Crosman 1100 in my collection, along with specimens of the ammo and both types of trap birds. Sadly, I haven't managed to find a thrower - yet - lol.

Thanks leonardj I didnt know if I remembered what it actually was or not, are the shot shells still available or are they a thing of the past. I remember it was a fun gun at the time and it may be something worth keeping my eye out for. Yes and the shells he had at the time were red coloured. Have you or do you ever shoot it or is it more of a collectors piece

The shells show up from old stashes sometimes, but mostly people reload them.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, I think I saw some new manufactured substitutes before? I saw one on sale by mrmarvin on airgunforum.ca about 2 years ago I think, the gun and 200?400? shells for $400. If you are serious about buying one, give him a shout, he's in the dealers section on airgunforum. He seems to come across old and rare airguns on a regular basis.

I have one as well, and you can buy the shells still from a guy in the US. Dont recall who though. I dont bother with the shells much, have too much fun with the roundball. Im going to make some brass shells when the time permits(or the boss isnt around)

The shot shells are still available as NOS from time to time. The shells can be reloaded, as long as the sealing lip at the rear of the shell retains it's seal. There have been some metallic replacement cartridges available from 3rd party retailers - however - some of these do not have any seal in the rear of the shell, and will result in reduced efficiency of the gun, because it will not seal correctly.

Yes, I do shoot mine on occasion, both with round ball, and with the shot. It is best defined as a "shootable collector".

Great thanks guys and the pics are great NOTEC. That is definetly the gun I was thinking of but it has ben 25-30 yrs since Ive seen it and likely 20yrs that I didnt even think about it. Just wanted to see if I was still sane and if I did indeed remember what I thought I had shot way back when.

Where do you live? Im sure your close to someone that owns one that would let you shoot one for old time sake. Check out Canadian Airgun Forum for lots of great info on this and other airguns.
