did any of you ever hunt with handguns back in the day?

My Papa and great uncle used to carry Colt Woodsman pistols when they went deer and moose hunting in Martin River Ont. up until the late 60's. Apparently they brought home a lot of partridge with with the aid of their Colts. I also have a photo from approx. 1950, of a wolf that my Papa shot with a pistol. I've never heard what the pistol was though. My mother, who was about 4 at the time, is in the picture and was present when her father shot the wolf. While she remembers the wolf being shot she can't tell me if Papa was using a revolver or semi. I also have the bounty receipt for $25 that Papa got for the wolf.

Does anyone think an arguement could be made to allow the carrying of .22's legal and have ATCs issued?

Didn't you know that more children DIE each year in Canada from .22 pistols then from cancer, illness and accidents combined, you MONSTER! :p

I'd like to be able to hunt with my hand guns. But if you talk to alot of people handguns don't have enough power to kill large game. I beg to differ, my 45 auto has more then enough power to kill deer or larger game given the right range and shot placement. my 44 mag has more then enough and my magnum research 45-70 has more yet and i would love to go bear or deer hunting with a handgun

Some of the old timers in my hunting group have reflected on road hunting grouse with single action .22 hand guns.....

Thanks for those pictures... great quality for the era

probably the place to start would be lobbying the provinces to include handguns on the list of allowable hunting licences, then working on the feds for ATC's. of course this is a chicken and egg arguement.

What we need is a one armed guy (or even better a one armed kid).... They couldn't say no because of his handicap. We all know that you can't discriminate against anyone. The way I have it worked out is if we can get the handicapped out there and hunting with handguns. How can they say no to the rest of us??

And next on my plate is the 12.6 age discrimination.

BAMMMMMMMMM

your not a liberal, are you?

lol, I kid I kid. if there's an arm to twist, twist!

Hunting aside, it would be nice to have one when camping in the back country. We usually bring a rifle with us just in case, which is legal, and heavy not to mention awkward to carry with a full back pack and a canoe on your head! A small, light hand gun would make things much easier and take up less room in the tent.
