What one guy likes and another doesn't is pretty subjective-I'm not into ''black rifles'' and I don't need it ''tricked out''but I got to thinking what would make[for me] the perfect.22-it would be accurate, carry nicely,16'' barrel, and a thumbhole stock and under 5 lb.Stainless would be nice, but blue is fine. Not even too particular if its a bolt action , single shot or semi automatic, but I do seem to favour bolt actions.I love the looks of the wood laminate thumbhole stocks-but they are too heavy for carrying.A Fiberglass thumbhole stock would be acceptable,if the wood stock was too heavy.oh yeah-and not too expensive. Is there such an animal?I've been looking at variations of the savage mk 2

If I had money to throw away, I'd love to have one of those Anchutz Fortner actioned biathlon rifles with all the trimmings. They made for carrying, fast deployment and accuracy. Probably 4G by the time your done.

If we're wishing, I wish for a Cooper Jackson Squirrel Rifle topped with a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16 x 50 mildot scope.

Bisonhd, that Anschutz biathlon rifle would be a sweet gun, too.

I wish Remington was making there 513 Target and sporter again ,as well as there 541 sporter.I wish Winchester was making there model 63 semi-auto and ther model 52C sporter with sights.I wish Sako was still making its model 78rf. sporters as well as the Sako Range fitted with factory target sights. This will never happen due to the price of these guns and the size of the buying public interested in these, they couldn't break even!!! But I play hard and wish big.Dale in T-Bay:wave:

One of these :) They actually made a carbon-fiber barrel'd version that was exceptionally light, but my preference os the sporter (bottom)...although that pic shows a crappy example of the walnut available...mine has a fantastic set of wood :)

yah, thats getting close...but does anyone make a LIGHTWEIGHT thumbhole stock?-the laminated ones look great but are heavy-guess its the dense wood and all the glue

Well, I'd wish for a "REAL" Brass framed, Lever action .22 Mag with a 24" octagonal barrel, Toggle link and elevator action and a Remington Hepburn style stock. All the steel part's (Lever, Hammer, ect.) would be Color Case Hardened.

Really, kinda like Winchester 1866 but slimmed down to accommodate the much smaller cartridge.

She would also be outfitted with Extra fancy Black Walnut and a Mid-range ladder sight.

Nothing too flashy, ah!;)

The perfect wish list eh?
How about Marlin coming back out with the mountie, and probably a grade 1 model with an octagon barrel. with brass barrel band and brass cresent butt plate?
Newfie bullet

Been thinking-maybe I already HAVE the perfect .22-either my BRNO or Marlin, they both shoot well, and all I need [or want] is a new stock....

I'd take a couple of 54 actioned Annies:
54 fullstock with a Leupold m8 for hunting.
50.18 with a shilen barrel in a pharr silouette stock for steel.

The Buckmark carbon (2006) with laminate stock weighed 3 lbs .....the next version called the laminate lite (2007) weighed a whole 4 oz more....that light enough for ya? :)

If you wanted to go new, you could always buy the current laminate/heavy barrel version and wait for Tacsol to do another run of fluted lightweight barrels for the buckmark....total package weight would be in the 3 1/2 lb mark.

In my experience, laminates are not that much heavier than walnut....has more to do with the desity of the wood used in laminates (generally birch) being much lighter than the denser hardwoods.
