SVT 40s in stock!

SKS's will be around for a while, and the upcoming marstar shipment means they'll be getting cheaper. SVT's on the other hand..... I may just buy one at that price.

Picked mine up today. Good stuff.

I ordered 3. One from each Arsenal. I received exactly that. :D

There are three major differences between this batch and the previous. The older orders had a "plum" coloured refurbished bolt. The new ones are more "gold" in colour. The second difference is the DE09 on the receiver near the date and arsenal. The third difference is with the trigger. The previous ones had a lighter trigger on average. The triggers on this last batch are still clean and good, but they are heavier.

You never know what you're going to get with these orders. With the previous orders I had a Tula 1940 with an incorrect muzzle brake. It had the 2 ports instead of the 6. Everything else was good. With this new order the Ishevsk 1941 came with the incorrect muzzle brake. No big deal but worth noting.

All three have the correct SVT-40 stocks. no AVT replacements. One of them has zero stock fixes. The other two have minor arsenal repairs. With the Ishevsk having the most repairs.

The Tula has really nice looking darker and kind of blotchy wood. Looks very good. I like it. The other two have your regular colouring for the stocks.

I figure if you've read this far you are really interested in these rifles. :D. So here's the interesting thing:

The 1941 Kovrov has zero arsenal repairs on the stock but does have an extra pin in the rear near the receiver. But more interestingly is the fact that there are (4) ###x marks on the stock left and high of the serial number. The letter X isn't in the serial number for this rifle. I'm wondering if this was a "sniper" variant? It would explain the 4 x on the stock and the extra pin in the rear near the receiver for extra stability even though there are no repairs.

Did the Russians use an X on their stocks to mark sniper kills? Or is it some type of proof mark?

Are the X's where they crossed out to old serial number prior to re stamping the new serial number?

I know that My SVT has 6 X's from where it was force matched. My SKS also has these X's. I believe every force matched stock has these X's. Which is ALOT of stocks.

Couldn't see any under it, but I believe you are correct. It looks like the stock has been force matched. I might make this one a shooter although it is a Kovrov :(.

Thanks for the info

does the rear of the reciever have a space for the pin of the scope mount ?

if so its an ex sniper

I would really like to get a new stock for mine ...........i just don't want to bash up the historic one

i think the "DEC 09 UA" on the receiver is the new UN marking. so, for collecting purpose, those came in earlier without this marking should be more desirable in the future.

the one i received was not as nice. inside the bore, the grooves was dark and full of pitting. so, i returned it.

Yep. Don't want the baddies having unregulated SVT-40 rifles.

Yep. X is a struck out digit from a previous rifle's serial

Not always. I have a Tradeex import SVT from a few years back where they just switched the stocks. Completely different number, no ###XX. I also saw one with no number on the stock at all, just the rebuild stamp. Possibly off the shelf parts without a life on a previous rifle, Maybe sanded off? *shrug*

I removed my barreled action from the stock, and the original serial number is also stamper under the barrel, no X's on them.

Maybe all us SVT owners could check these number and ship each other our original matching stocks. ;)
