thinking of a future build after things calm down, which caliber rifle to build 7mm-08 or .243 cal, would be for yotes & wild pigs, the odd varmints & target shooting up to 500 yards. not sure if deer will fit in this picture as I no longer hunt deer. What are your thoughts on this & why one over the other.

You can do no wrong with either, however, if barrel life is of any remote importance to you, the 7mm/08 will have a distinct advantage here. If it were me, I'd go for the 7mm/08.

Great bullet selection for both 6mm and 7mm bullets from all major brands.

Given what you might use it for I'd go with the 7mm-08, but since you want something in that caliber range based on the 308, why not the 260 Rem?

I'll look into the 260 cal, never thought of it. I just bought a Savage 10 FCP in .223cal for gophers, target shooting and maybe yotes. and I was thinking of something a bit larger in caliber that could still be considered a varmint/hunter for the larger animals like yotes, wolves, wild pigs/boar.

I am a fan of either the 260 Rem or 260 Rem AI. Jerry at mystic precision can help you out with barrels that shoot phenomenally..

I routinely shoot to 700 with my 260 AI and will soon be shooting it out to 950 or so.. I love it.

260 rem with 140 gr.berger vld hunting bullets will kill everything from moose to mice and do it with style....and a wonderful long rang cartridge

I shoot both the 6.5x55 and a sako in .260 love the 6.5 bullet

I am going to have to put a +1 for the .243 win. I have never owned a 7-08 so i cannot compare. But i have owned a Remington 700 BDL .243 Varmit rifle with a bull barrel. I used to hand load my own rounds and shoot ground hogs in northern ontario when i lived there. This round is a flat shooting caliber. I had a 3x9 bushnell scope on it and shot ground hogs easily from 200 to 500 yards. I used 80 gr hp bullets.
You should compare the ballistics of each caliber. I like the flat shooting .243 win.
