Figured I would ask all you shotgun gurus about this one. I saw it at WSS and noticed it is close to twice the price of a regular 870. Anyone have any info on it. What is so special about the 870 marine magnum? Obviously the finish but anything else? Internals? Are they worth it? General opinions, likes, dislikes? Pictures, modifications specific to the marine magnum?

The Marine Mag is the same grade gun as the Police Magnum, 'cept the finish, furniture and markings.

What you refer to as a "regular 870" is probably the economy, Express model with a bead blasted blued finish that could develop surface rusts if you don't pay attention. Not to mention other economy related issues and a lesser QC.

I don't think it is the same "Grade" as the police magnum. The trigger assembly is plastic, and it is made on the same line as the regular 870.

The only real difference that I can tell (I own one) is the nickle-plated internal components and stainless steel receiver and barrel are corrosion resistant.

IIRC the MM are hand picked off the Wingmaster line? I can't remember now. They are better than any Police I have ever held. I regret selling my MM to this day. The only shotgun I have ever used that I liked more was a Benelli M4. I cleaned the thing only after several hunred rounds and threw it away wet many times. The only spot of rust to ever show up was on the mag spring.

The marine mag. is a simple corrosion resistant utility gun. It is NOT a tactical mall ninja mirror cuddle gun. I know that it looks like some kind of pimp canon but that is not the idea behind it. To take a MM and put a cheap norc barrel on it is well silly. Not only are you losing the corrosion resistance but you have lost mag. capacity (might just matter when a bear is chewing on your leg). If your gun is just going to the range it doesnt matter to much but if you are USING your gun for deffensive or other utility tasks it just may make a difference.

It just may be that my lack of SWAT traning is making me post silly things again. I just have a hard time seeing why you would pay for the MM finish then replace it with bead blasted then blued crap????????????

Dont get me started on AR stocks, full lenth rails, optics and those silly forward pistol grips on scatter guns.

Here is what i did to mine.I ended up buying a Beneli M4 with 14 inch barel so thats why this one is up for sale.I would not sell it other wise. Its one of the slickest guns out there.

Best looking tactical shotgun I've seen around. If I didn't have some many around including a Marine Magnum and a Franchi SPA-8, I might be interested.

That is a different project (read not a pump gun).....and yeah silly as well but you don't know untill you try.

I still havent worked out why you didnt use a express or a wingmaster for that build. Have you? Just like a crow and you love shiny things?
What are your "needs"? Why do you need a full lenth rail?

Gecko45 called and he wants his style back.

Ya the stock one is better, but don't beat the guy up too much. Other than the crappy barrel, his gun isn't TOO bad. Me? If I was going to do that to it, I would prefer the black/blued gun, but hey. I for one, really like having a pistol style fore grip at the very least, just makes shooting it easier for me, not for looks, or to be "cool". The stock gun, with a very simple fore grip and I would be a happy fellow.
