win mod 70 problems

about 10 years ago purchased a mod 70 7mm synthetic with a boss. the stock seemed kind of cheap and flexable i took it anyway as i had ordered it and it was aproxx 1 week before hunting season.lined up the rifle not impressive but do-able for hunting.used for the season.one year later tryed to line it up to no avail,took apart and found what looked like a piece of silicone rubber between the recoil lug and the stock takeing up about 1/4 in of space also had bent reciever screws from the recoil i,m assuming. did anyone ever see this before????? have been looking for a decent stock for this,on and off for 10 yrs prefer something with aluminum bedding block but can,t find a dealer with this

The piece of slicone rubber you're talking about is what Winchester uses as bedding material. It's sqirted hot (like a glue gun) and the barrel action is bedded to the stock.

No wonder winchester went out of business,the nice rubber mounting allowed the action to bounce around in the stock,bending the action screws,a retard from hell must have thought of this, 1100.00 for the rifle,500.00 to repair probably

suppose i could when i get home right now at work at a remote mineral exploration camp on the coast of hudsons bay ont,the point i was trying to make was the lousy workmanship of late model winchester rifles , can also post pic of the c!@$ plastic stock asap

Thanks, that is a possable explanation for bent screws regardless the rifle is in pieces until i find a replacement stock i like,until then it can take up space in the corner............lol

Ah, you get used to having them lay around. You stop counting when you have 20 something projects on the go at the same time. Don't worry about it, eventually the parts and such come together. - dan
