How much interest in a Canadian limited edition Ruger No.1?

yes but I think what he's getting at is why does a ruger #1 cost that much?

I have the same question. what makes this ruger single shot rifle worth that? Not sayin it isn't and Im buyin one just the same, but for 1000-1200 you can buy a pretty nice bolt gun.
 
If there is an argument about barrel lenght then I would say a 24" sporter barrel would be a very good alternate. I find the 24" barrels on a single shot rifle very suitable with fine ballance. Besides a 303 would not need anymore length for good ballistics.

Well, it is made of wood and steel, so compare it to a wood and steel bolt action rifle. Other than a Weatherby Vanguard and some Savage models they are all in that price range or above. Plus I'd bet that the volume isn't nearly as high, and in addition there is a wide variety of calibers available. I suspect it costs more to make a rifle model chambered in 20 cartridges than one in 5.

Just kidding - I was never going to give you a gun for your birthday, and I'm not the least bothered if anyone doesn't want a Ruger No.1 or anything else in .303British.

Some time ago there was a magazine article where a guy had a Ruger chambered for 303British. I'm not sure who did the work, but the chamber was a special, blueprinted chamber if I remember right, and the accuracy was exceptional.
 
Just to make sure here.

It seems that more than one desired configuration has been proposed.

Can somebody run a poll with the first second and third listed configurations and we could poll our 1st second and third choices.

I want a No1 Canadian in .303 but not in "any configuration will do" type of thing.

No1 S config medium sporter barrel with sights and 26" barrel blued and walnut of course.

Exactly. I've never spent that kind of coin on a rifle before. As far as hunting rifles go whats a ruger #1 have that makes it worth $1,200? I can get a used sako for that. Whats a ruger have as far as craftsmanship, fit, finish, accuracy, relieabilty, and smoothness that makes it $1,200? Again forgive my ignorance
 
Class!! It demonstrates that you have sufficient hunting skills and shooting skills to only require one shot, ......just as our ancestors before us did!!!

All kidding aside for those who haven't hunted with one, ..they're a fine, well balanced rifle that gets the job done. I have a lot of #1's, from the .204 to the .45's, and prefer to hunt with them over most of my others including customs and H&H's. Clay has 2 on order for me right now in addition to the .303's.

Try one, you'll love it.
