This is an appeal to any hunters in the Ottawa valley area who would be willing to mentor a new hunter. So far I've been self taught and it isn't going well. I dont have any relatives into hunting and am new to the Ottawa area (student) so I don't really know anyone.

I would happily buy Tim Hortons/ a 2-4 for the day if anyone would be willing to take me shooting to impart some wisdom or fundamentals. So far its tough going without anyone to learn from. I've tried at my range (in London, ON) but there's noone interested in helping newcomers to the sport. So far, its pretty damned discouraging.

All I want is to become a better hunter - to obey and enjoy the rules - and to do my bit to keep a dying Canadian tradition alive, instead of just being an asshat like we see all too often in the news, breaking laws.

Anyone who could spare a day, or even a few hours, please let me know - will make it worth your while and would be incredibly grateful.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me - all of the above, really. I was just out this morning for Rabbit/Grouse in LaRose forest. Found ONE rabbit track and about thirty coyote tracks (Moose too). Ultimately didn't find anything.

Basically Im looking to learn anything I can - and as much as I can. Do you think you can help? I would really appreciate it.

You had me at 2-4. :D

Was there a particular species you were looking to hunt? The thing is, you're a little late in the season....

(Still bunnies and predators I think....but it's a might bit chilly out there)

-21 this morning, I might be ice fishing before Christmas!!

Unfortunetly I am in the Kingston area, If you are willing to come down to this area, I can help you out. Come to the Kingston Trap and Skeet club and we can go from there.

If not you have now clarified what kind of hunting you are interested in for some members in Ottawa to help you out.

Good luck.

Well....it looks like you've got some persistance/perseverence! Good traits to have as a hunter.

Apparently I had good cold resistance, too. It was going ok until I fell through ice tracking some rabbit trails. Went in up to my knees and had to run about a km back to the car to try and warm up. Lesson definitely learned there...

Always willing to help out. PM me and we'll see what we can get going. Timmies would be fine, I rarely drink anymore.

EDIT: Freemen, maybe we can get together with bluemike and do some bunnies and coyotes. I've got a few farms around the Cornwall area dying for some coyote culls. Let me know. -Jason

Pm Me, I'm young but not by any means new. I know a few spots outside ottawa, that are not super pressured. I won;t gurantee anything this late in the year but, geese are my specialty but Rabbits and grouse are prevalent where I hunt, also I know a bunch of guys our age that hunt and shoot too.

Maybe we can get a CGN bunny cull going for Larose? Any takers? Also I might have some free time next week and could take 1 or 2 new hunters out (one at a time) to some farms around my area (Cornwall) for coyotes. Any takers for this one?

-Jason

buckhunter Pm me details for the bunny hunt maybe we can plan this together (if you want help), I haven't checked the regs but maybe Grouse will be on the menu too. I also have an alternate location suggestion if people are interested. The land was once managed by Ruffed Grouse Unlimted or Association or something, some creep shot the sign.

My buddy and I might be in for culling some bunnies....maybe yotes too!

PS : My City councillor is meeting with the MNR in January to discuss the Yote issue. I've been pressuring him for a bounty! I sent him the info on the east coast and Sask where both provinces have 20-25 dollar bounties!

SHOW me da money!!

I'd for sure be interested if you guys end up putting something together. My last exam is tomorrow and my 20 gauge just got back from warranty work.

Also afaik grouse is still open till the 31st in wmus 64/65/66.

As far as falling through the ice goes, I recommend swowshoes. They've saved me from wet feet a few times already this year.

I'll sticky this for you guys till you get everything for your hunt together, makes it easier and maybe there are a couple more guys in the area that wanna hunt or have some land.

Thanks for the sticky MadDog.

OK guys here's the deal.

Turkeyslayer has graciously offered up a secluded spot near Winchester. We'd like to keep it to less than 8 people. IF the hunting is slow, there's a spot where we can shoot a bit of skeet. Bring some #8 if ya got 'em. (I really suck at clays!) There is some brush and some clearings. Turkeyslayer's small game weapon of choice is a scattergun and mine is a .22. This weekend will be the last for grouse as well in WMU65. Bring your ORANGE and ammo. Maybe a small lunch as we could be out for the day. As a side note, if you guys have a small plastic whistle, please bring it. I'll explain why on Sunday. First 8 (max) to PM me or Turkeyslayer1300 are in. We'll update the list as it goes and Turkeyslayer will give directions to his spot when you're confirmed. Heck, I don't even know where we're going!
