My Norinco CF-98 Pistol

Why won't anyone tell us if mags are available? WHY?

Read my post above, they aren't (in Canada anyways). When I contacted Lever they said that it's the downside of having an uncommon gun in Canada- a lack of spares and accessories.
Believe me, I really wish the other stuff was available here. The CF98 is an excellent pistol, and I'd love to use it for more, but with only 2 mags and no accessories, that is pretty much ruled out.

I want to see a range report. How does it perform?

OK... :D

By an odd coincidence DVC, the local Rent-A-Gun range, got a CF-98 to add to their 9mm fleet. I got to shoot it tonight. It's not the smoothest feeling gun I've ever handled but it's very new so perhaps it'll break in with a bit more time and rounds down the pipe. However it's not the most gritty and rough feeling new gun I've handled either.

It handles well and shoots very nicely. It's easily more accurate than I'm able to hold so the groups it gave me (most of them within a 3 to 3.5 inch circle at 12'ish yards) was just fine with me. The single action trigger pull is smooth but a bit heavy. However it has a clearly felt reset which made it extremely easy to bang of decently quick double taps (the reason only most of them where within the circle :D). The double action trigger pull was both funny but very effective. It didn't have any significant buildup and break that I could feel. It just kept feeling like I was compressing a spring in a smooth manner and then BANG! with no warning at all. The DA trigger pull was the typical army or law enforcement heavy feel. But it was pleasently smooth for the entire travel. I liked this trigger for DA pull better than that of the Ruger SR-9 and as much as the Glocks I've shot.

The ergonomics are a mix of good and bad. The grip itself fits the hand well. The front and back strap areas being nicely rounded. The sides have just enough of a bulge to fill the curve of the hand holding it. It's not a fat grip but it was a nice fit in my large size hands. But the grip is a bit off for the now popular two handed IPSC style hold. There's a bulge and ridge up near the rear of the grip where it flares out and transitions to the upper frame just below the safety lever. When held one handed it fits the hand marvelously. But when you lift up your strong hand thumb to two hand it with the thumbs overlaid along the side the strong hand thumb rides hard on this flare and ridge. A day of shooting would almost certainly result in a blister or at least a sore and tender spot. And worse than that the flare lifts the thumb and part of the strong hand's web away from the upper frame hook. This causes a loss of contact pressure in that part and the gun can move around a bit too much. I tried a slightly modified hold and it immediately made the gun feel like it was moving less during the recoil. If the plastic in that area is thick enough some dehorning and adding a little more "ramp run" to this flared area would cure this issue easily. But that may be against a lot of rules for various competition classes.

Fit and finish is superb. All the parts I saw that were visible without a field strip were well made and finished. I can't comment on any other aspects.

Must be nice for the mag availability. The CF98s must be somewhat common there as it was a Pakistani guy on You Tube that taught me how to strip mine:)
