how's the $300 mossberg 100 ATR stack up

I bought a Marlin XL7 .270 new in the box at the gun show in Kamloops. I paid $350.00 with no tax. I own quite a few rifles and this is my most accurate rifle. It also has the softest recoil pad of all of my guns. I am quite content with it.:)

marlins are my favorite rifles... older levers in particular. i think i'll steer clear of the 100ATR. even just rumors about bolt's blowing up in my face are enough of a reason for me to spend $100 more for a marlin. or "marmington" as they are are more unfortunately referred to as by a buddy of mine.

As for other Mossberg guns, the 4x4 rifles are supposed to be a great entry rifle. Ive seen two of them shoot phenomenally with handloads...

My local gun shops sells tons of 4x4's. He's never had one come back, and everyone in the field seems quite happy with them.

Here is shooting today with my 270 mossberg atr
58 grains of h4350, 90 grain sierra hollow point

I'd say it shoots pretty good at 100 yrds

are group has one of these for a back up/"new guy buddy gun" when we go meat hunting.(30-06)with a 3-9 rifle man.it will give us a 1-1.5 m.o.a with fed fusion 165gr all day long.

Don't expect quality or any resale value for a rifle that retails around $300 new, nor will you find a myriad of aftermarket components to customize should your desired (thumbhole stocks, etc) without significant cost, or modification. If all your looking for is a rifle to go "bang"for the 3 or 4 weekend trips over the hunting season - that's the rifle for you.

Don't expect quality or any resale value for a rifle that retails around $300 new, ...

The Stevens 200 was typically offered for $299.99 when it first came out. People complain that the stocks aren't nice, but they work as they should, they are routinely reported to be as accurate as rifles costing twice as much, and I never see them offered for sale used for less than $300. The Mossberg ATR hasn't had the same success, but the Stevens 200 says you are wrong.
