Took me a while to admit it, but today I did this :

5 rounds, 7 groups around 1"out of 8 ...those are the best one (0.7"), my best shooting ever !
Oh yes, I forget, that's at 200m !
Looks like I found the sweet spot.
I'm just starting precision shooting as well as reloading, and I'm happy !

Stock Rem700 PSS, Falcon Menace
Sierra 168gn HPBT, Varget 2550 fps

Now I just have to do this every single time

Pretty slick! And the great thing is that as your technique shooting AND reloading gets better with time, you'll be even happier!

You can have the best cut barrel, the best bedding, the most trued action but the best gun smith , and be a good shooter, but with out the right bullet set at the right depth running the right pressure, with the right powder and case, it sjust an average gun.

There are some exceptions and sometimes you do find a perfect factory round. Do not get me wrong some factory ammo will hold MOA or better, but not competative in BR.

Lapua 6mmBR wins 300m competitions and shoots much tigher than MOA, as does all their match ammo. However, we continue to promote handloading, as it does produce better results if you know what you are doing and it saves money.

With varget like you are using, you probably should be getting velocities around 2700-2800 fps (43-46 grs). You may find another sweet spot around there with that charge and bullet. Very good shooting none the less.

Very good shooting !! Feels great when it comes together. This is about wear I am at with my 22-250 at 100 yrds. And yes reloading does work. Practice practice does not hurt either hahah.
Well done

Humm I would have never thought guys would shoot factory ammo at compatitions, I just figured as much as I have never seen it done at any that I have shot at. We all load here in Ontario, many load right at the range.

I have also never tried Factory ammo in my 6 BRs and not in my 6ppc, I know they make it, but just never thought it would produce. I have tried it in my 22 PPC for teh brass,,, but to no good credit, it only shot .75s

CISM shoots factory and Andy Webber has won countless Canadian Precision titles and Provincials + other matches with factory ammo. Have seen many .5 MOA groups with factory ammo. Still recommend reloading.

Peter

That is correct all government agencies shoot facory ammo Canada or U.S. Its a Liability thing. Sorry I was talking and thinking Bench Rest at the time of my posts. Forgot about the tactical percision world.

Pretty well all agencies with the notable exception AMU(Army Marksmanship Unit), USA. Professional shooters backed by reloading team.

Nice to see someone else who breaks the tradition of load-testing at 100 yards. My very limited experience shows me that I will get better information from testing if I push it out to at least 200 yards. Of course the weather will play more of a role in the group sizes. The key is to be consistent and shoot fast before the wind changes.

sorry, but I'm going to call you a liar and a fake. if I've learned anything from reading this forum and taking advice from certain barrel dealers and cgn experts posts it that factory remington rifles are junky sub par shooters. thus, these groups, although exactly mirroring my experience with a nearly identical rifle, must be impossible.

(keep up the good work! ;)
