M14 20/5 mags

Just about to take possession of my first M14/M305 and need some mags. Quick check on a couple of sponsors sites came up empty. Are these things hard to come by ? Haven't seen any up on the EE either.
 
Both Marstar and Wolverine should have them in stock. They're Norinco with the long followers instead of the pins. USGI and Norinco mags will pop up in the Parts EE forum from time to time, keep your eyes open for good deals there.
 
I have so far had 50/50 sucess with my Norinco 5/20 mags. Half of the mags work in half of the rifles I've tried them in.

I get mine from Marstar and always get excellent service. Shipping is a bit expensive on those suckers. I think I paid almost $9 for four of them and I'm in the Ottawa Valley.

Is that a typo? $9?

I only have the USGI one that are pinned. Never had a problem with any of them. Personally I prefer the pinned versus the shank thing on the follower. I have dropped them and beat them but they work like new.
 
$9 for shipping. They sent the damn things four counties snail mail and CP charged me $9.

I feel for the guys that sell on the internet. Canada Post must be costing them a fortune with the rediculous shipping rate.
 
I'd also like to know if all the new 5/20 M14 mags are welded, and if so, who still has ones that are not and can be easily cleaned.

When I have to buy a substitue locally in order to save the rediculous shipping rate it costs John. I enjoy being a loyal customer to those that have excellent service and products. I do not enjoy having to respect my budget/finances and shop somewhere simply because the shipping rates are out of hand.
 
Leonard Lee who started Lee Valley Tools screamed up and down at Canada Post for constantly jigging the postage rates for small packages. His company does a lot of mail order, but by analyzing costs found an unpredictable variance between what they collected in "bulk" shipping and handling fees and what Canada Post charged them.

I'm not sure how it was resolved, but Canada Post probably had little sympathy with a little guy trying to stay competitive.
 
I have seen that some of the 5/20 mags are indeed spot welded at the very bottom. But I do not believe that they come factory like that. The ones I've seen looked as if someone put a small tack on the bottom and then put them on the shelf. I ordered M14 5/20s last week from Marstar and none were welded shut. There might be a few out there but, I've only ever seen it once on a small batch of mags at the same shop.

Hence the "" around the 20. They are from the USA but I pinned them so they actually hold 5.5 rounds. I had a couple of factory pinned ones and the 5th rounds fit real tight and had a feed issue until I got another mag that was pinned deeper and no more issues.
 
Ahhh....gotcha. I see...along a similar line I had some 30 round mags from the states (for an AR) that were actually pinned to 4 rounds (who the hell did that?...can you say UGGGHHH!!!). With much effort they now hold 5 rounds (and still look factory)....but what a pain! Our laws suck...
