A buddy of mine picked up a norinco 1911 from marstar this summer. As he was interested in a .22 conversion as well he asked the salesman if they had any for sale. The guy told him the .22 conversions will not fit norinco-1911's.I have had to fit 2 kimber conversions to custom 1911's before, but just final fitting to the rails, and the rails were tight anyway.I thought these guns built for norinco were built to colt specs?
Any help??

Colt .22 conversion unit.

A Colt unit went right on my NP29.

I'll have to try that on mine.

I have tried my Colt unit on a Norc 1911A1 full size frame [with .45ACP ejector] and it wouldn't go on. Didn't monkey around to see what the issue was but I'm sure it was only a minor glitch.

The Colt .22 unit has gone on any Colt 1911A1, military or commercial model I have tried it on. As well as the USGI 1911A1's [Ithaca, Remington Rand, etc]. Pic of it on a 1942 vintage Colt USGI frame:

I have it on a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup frame now & is likely where it will reside.

But it wouldn't go on either my 1914 mfg Colt commercial government or 1917 mfg Colt USGI as the rails on the respective frames were too tight a fit.

About a month ago I bought a STI/Marvel .22 conversion kit from Williams Arms. Works just fine on my Norinco. Shoots tight groups and works fairly well with standard velocity ammo.

You didn't mention the chambering of his Norinco 1911.

I expect that it was either 9x19mm or .40S&W, and the fact that extractor clearance issues might require one to remove the extractor from the frame to enable compatability with the .22LR slide was the reason for the general won't-fit statement. It will fit, but making it fit might involve the temporary removal of parts.

If it had been a .45ACP, I doubt he would have said that.

Either way, such a generalization would be wrong.

Which Norinco model fit the STI/marvel kit?

I don't know which variation of all the imports it is. I bought it used. It's pretty much just a stock 1911a1 .45 copy. All blued and the ugly brown plastic grips. Most drop-in parts have fit fine. The exception being a Wilson ambi-safety. It will "fit" but it won't actually prevent the hammer from dropping.

Wendell,
Are you saying that if some parts were temporarily removed from a 9x19mm Norinco NP28 (double stack 9mm) that 22 kits would probably fit?

Does anyone have experience or educated opinions on the fitment of any 22 conversion kits in a Norinico NP28?(double stack 9mm)?
Thanks for your time guys.

No direct experience.... However, I see one of the biggest challenges would be trying to get the single stack magazine of the .22 unit to work with/in the double stack well of the wide body NP-28 frame.

I recently acquired a Springfield Armoury GI frame off the EE. Seems to work great as a platform for the Colt .22 unit:

Correct me if I am wrong, but it depends on what model of Norinco you own.

If you own the fullsize Norinco, you should be good to go, but it will likely not fit on the 1911A1C.

The typical 1911 .22 conversion units are designed to work with full sized 1911A1 single stack style frames.

Marvel makes one magazine.

They fit it with spacers for use in a double-stack centrefire pistol.

An RKI could fabricate spacer panels to fit the norinco double-stack, just as Marvel did.

My Marvel conversion works on my full sized single stack .45 Norc 1911 and my Norc Commander. No issues.

My double stack Para .45 needs the mag with the side slab spacers, but uses the same .22 Marvel slide.

S.i.r.

where are you guys finding all of these .22 cal conversion units?!

i cant find them anywhere. its for a taurus pt1911.

The only one that I see is the Kimber (aka Ciener).

Kimber .22LR Rimfire Conversion Kit
Rimfire conversion kit, adjustable sights, one ten-round magazine included. Fits Mil-Spec 1911's* with 4-inch to 5-inch barrels, full-size frame with traditional non-ramped barrels only.

* Will not work on Taurus PT1911A. May not work on Para GI Expert.

https://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?pageID=79&section=&ID=9768

I have no idea why they would say it "Will not work on Taurus PT1911A."
