Confused!

I have one for sale on EE...I have it listed as a 2 3/4 chamber because thats what it states on the barrel!

The serial number indicates by the last 3 numbers the type and its "103" which by the Browning site would indicate 3 1/2 chamber?

Some help please!!

You could measure it... but I'd trust the barrel stamp over the website ANY day.

How old is it? If it's older than say, 5-7 years, I'd wager it's not a 3.5" chamber.
 
Ya makes sence...I am sure it's a 2 3/4. Measured the chamber length and its around 3" so it is a 2 3/4. Just confusing that the web site would say that!
 
My Brownings are all near exact measurements of what is stamped on the barrel. Even the guns without stamps on the barrel are all within a 1/16" of exact measurement. If your measuring around 3", it could easily be chambered for three inches. Better check it again.
 
The one on EE looks like it has the steel receiver....could have a 3in chamber at the most...highly unlikely though since the bbl stamp should be correct. Reason I say that is because I've a similar one, the Upland Special (24in bbl) and that is chambered for 3in cartridges and stamped accordingly. Perhaps the Superlights were always offered with 2 3/4in chambers?

The late model Superlight Feather (with alloy receivers) are chambered for 2 3/4 only ...

Hogrion, it the chamber is 3 inch , It is a 2 3/4 inch gun as is stated on the barrel. You need 1/4" for the crimp to open up in the chamber, not the barrel.

You would think so, but no. A 2 3/4 shell is actually shorter when crimped. 2 3/4 is the uncrimped length. Check it out with a shell - I just did!
 
The serial number would indicate an 85 year of manufacture, so I'm sure its a 2 3/4 now!!
Remeasured and it is closer to 2 3/4 than 3"

Marshall, I don't think so. You're on the right track though. A 3" chamber is actually for the length of the shell after it has been fired, in other words the 3" shell crimped measurement is 2 3/4" before being fired, and then after being fired is 3 inches.
