CZ 858 or SKS or ?

When I was looking at that pair I was told the SKS for fun, the CZ for decent accuracy at 100 yards, and the M1A for accuracy beyond that. I've got the M1A but I'm still thinking about the CZ. I'd rather have a gun that's better than my shooting.

I would choose the 858, when and if the **** hits the fan, your gonna want a light and comfortable rifle, an m14 dressed up is over 10lbs and sks is heavy still at 9lbs without any gizmos and the 858 is a little over 7lbs with a mag, what rifle do you really wanna trek around with all day in your arms? Parts are available for the 858 don't listen to ak people saying they arnt. Get some extra parts and rock and roll. Im also biased because im in the states and im able to use all 30 rounds of pure 7.62 goodness per magazine, its a no brainer for me, light, accurate and high capacity. those features are worth 600 to me, maybe not you or someone else but cheapness will have to take the back seat to those features.

I've had numerous ones of each. They both have their place. If we could use the whole 30 shot mag here, the Vz/CZ might have a real lead. But we can not,so that point quickly becomes moot. Certain SKSs have a collectors value, the Vz/CZ do not. They are both a blast to shoot. If you can afford both, get both. If not buy which one you can afford with a crate of ammo, and have some fun. Once you have one, you'll soon be wanting the other. It's an inevitability I'm affraid!

Like I said then, for accuracy out of the box, it's the CZ. But the SKS would be bags of fun for the $$. Just look them over carefully. I've seen some pretty crazy barrels bent in ways a gun should never be bent. The saying, "built on Friday" applies.

I was thinking about the 858 as well but all i seem to read about is the gremlin,I dont want a rifle that I cant trust to go bang when ever i pull the trigger...dan

They don't all have it. A poll done a while back showed that 25-30% (IIRC) of all models, regardless of origin, had it. It can be fixed with the bolt-carrier "tab" mod.

Accuracy I give a slight edge to the 858, but they are practically the same.

Just because you shoot the same ammo doesn't mean you can compare them? With which shovel can you shovel more dirt, an old rusty one which is bent and the stick is half broken or a new one, light, ergonomically nicely shaped? Probably the same, which one do you prefer?
