In addition to Dave's Sport Shop in Lyndon, WA, what other US FFL dealer takes care of obtaining US export permits to Canada? I understand Leroy's Big Valley Gun Shop in Montana has closed up shop? I've used them in the past.

Okay, it looks like fees are as follows:

Dave's Sport Shop: $US 249 + 3% of export value + $100 to bring it to a Canadian Post office and mail it
Questar International: $749
Buffalo Gun Center: ? (will call on Monday)

any others?

no kidding, $750 lol is it really costing them that much? even if the cost of importing was $750, it must be something you can not find in canada and a collectors piece.

Here's an updated list:

Dave's Sport Shop: $US 249 + 3% of export value + $100 to bring it to a Canadian Post office and mail it
Questar International: $749
Buffalo Gun Center: ? (will call on Monday)
Prophet River: $195 :)

Our fees are $195 for the first firearm on a shipment, $150 for the second and $100 for each after that. We ship every 4-8 weeks bring about 250 per shipment. Rifles take less time for paperwork than shotguns.

i'm guessing restricted firearms cost way more to import, and lots more paperwork.

no, same cost. Just takes a little longer on the canadian side though. Some firearms cannot be brought into Canada(Prohibs, even if you have it on your PAL) and some cannot be exported from the US (anything deemed 'sniper', basically)

Questar is a rip-off.

Questar has explained time and again that they pay extra because they are a high-volume importer - so blame the US rules for the high fees.

If you don't like them - then go somewhere else.

I understand some high-value guns go through them because the collectors like Questar's level of experience and service. Certainly it was a good experience when I dealt with them. I don't deal with them anymore because I don't buy high-value guns.

acrash, they are a "high volume importer" so their fees are triple of other importers? sorry if i'm not understanding this right.

The Questar fee covers the first two guns. I'm happy enough with them. When I used them it was very efficient and painless. It included all of the paperwork from the IIC and US Export permits right to verification and registration. But I agree, it's not worth it unless you are trying to import something pretty pricy.

Chris.

Leroy's Big Valley Gun Works will still do export but they are acting as an intermediary. The US State Department is the culprit here. They wanted to renew their license, but the US State Department wanted to charge them a retroactive fee for the previous business year - something like $45,000.00 USD. They even went to their state senator to protest and had lawyers involved to fight this injustice only to end up getting the run around from the Fed's. Denise, Leroy's wife even tried to get her own separate, new company formed to do exports - only to be denied once again by the Feds. They are currently working with a third party who was in a better position to continue their own license. In fact Profit River is using Leroy's to do their exports as well as Chip 9 Machining Ltd. in Weyburn SK. Chip 9 charges $126.00 plus any additional duty fees and inter Canada shipping charges required.

No need to call. Buffalo Gun Center Charges $100.00 and will meet you at the border with it. If you want them to bring it across and mail it to you it is an extra $50.00. AFAIK it is the same price for restricted and non-restricted. You just pay the P.S.T. and G.S.T. on it like you would anything else. I know many Cowboy guys from my group have done it with some regular revolvers and saved quite a bit over buying in Canada, plus they had the stock. Some unique stuff as well.

Buffalo Gun Center Charges $100.00 plus they had the stock.

This is why BGC is my US FFL of choice... They actually have stock.
If they don't have what you want they will get it for you in a matter of days... Not months.
'Longest wait I had to endure was a couple of weeks for a pair of Benelli M4's, They did have one, but at the time the wholesaler had none available. So instead of making up two sets of invoices we just waited until the second gun arrived and processed 'em both at the same time.

'Savings... ? Well, Cdn retail was about $2100ea. plus tax. Cost from BGC was $1550ea. Cdn all in.

If you're ever there ask for a tour, but be sure to have an extra pair of pants with you.
