Man, we NEED AKs up here!

.......... a POS assault rifle.

Gee, thanks for opening my eyes. I KNEW that over 50 countries that are STILL armed with it and nearly every single educated military analyst/advisor that consider it the best assault rifle ever made, were all full of ####.

^ I must second that Ak's kick ass, and are an awesome simplistic yet effective design.

I want one because they kick more ass than any other gun, IMO "which doesnt mean jack" but who cares!.

Oh and they are ###y too, in an ugly/crude sort of way.

I would even go as far to trade every gun that I own for one.

Have you shot one lately? Have your experts? They are crap. Failings start with the crappy safety/selecter, the slow mag changes and lack of bolt catch. Then there is the issue of poor accuracy.

Keep in mind that while they are in service with many 3rd and 4th world countries there are no modern armys using them. Hell I would rather carry an SA80A1 and I don't like them much either.

For sure. The imposition of War Measures Act, Forcible Internment of Citizens of Japanese and European origins, High Arctic Relocation, Residential Schools, the GST, just to name a few, all pale in comparison to not being allowed to own a POS assault rifle.

Zing!......:ar15:

What a great comment.
This should be in the running for Top Ten Comments of 2009.:p

Regardless of opinions of the rifle itself I would love the opportunity to own one as it has such a storied history and seen service in so many conflicts around to globe, hell its even on Mozambique's flag. Its a piece of history just as any of my other mil-surps are.

Looks like an old picture of patty hurst in the SLA....Give me your money you capitalist or we shoot the bird!

Polish and Finnish armies come to mind. Also many PMCs leave the wire every day armed with AKs and it doesn't cause them any heartache.

The AK isn't ideal but it's more than capable of doing what it was designed for.

I know a guy who used to be special forces in South Africa where they were issued FN rifles. He told me that everyone loved the FNs, but a lot of them (including him) put away the FN and opted for the AK instead, because they knew it would just about ALWAYS shoot, unlike even the vaunted FN.
If it's good enough for a special forces unit, it's definitely good enough for me... but you're welcome to believe that it's still a POS assault rifle.

Wow. We've never had this conversation before. *YAWN*

Could be made out of pressed cardboard, glued together with duck s**t and miss the side of a barn when fired from the inside or be manufactured lovingly of the finest materials available to modern industry and group 0.0075MOA at 750m...

You still can't have one.

For me, I like the bouffant hair and tinted glasses. She's hot.

Yea plus I watched a movie once and the guy with the AK was real cool. ;)

I've shot AK's more times than you have seen pictures of them. I still shoot them weekly in Canada.

1) Safety selector is not a "failing". The idea behind the design is that it would be easy to operate in thick gloves, which are worn by soldiers in cold climates (Russia). There are AK's with the AR-15 style selectors also, if thats your thing (Galils)

2) Slow mag changes? For you? Sure. For a properly trained soldier mag changes are just as fast as any other rifle. A little research goes a long way...

3) Lack of bolt catch? Whatever it is you mean by this, please explain how it is a "failing"

4) Poor accuracy? There are AK variants that will shoot sub-moa with good ammo. WAY more accurately than is needed for an assault rifle. Even the 50 year old rusted, beat up AK's that were never cleaned in their life will still shoot accurately enough to hit man-sized targets at assault rifle ranges (>200m).

5) There lots of modern armies using AK's. Russia, Finland, China, Poland, etc. Research before you post.

Who is "crap" now?

They are popular because they are cheap, and reliable. If I was in combat yeah I would want one to, but for the range cheap and reliable really mean ####. I don't plan on dropping my rifle in water mud and sand before a range trip, and cheap doesnt get you very far in this sport.

I think you guys are missing the point....

He was just trying to say that despite the amount of emotion that our firearms laws bring up on this forum, they are not the worst thing our gov't has done by a long shot.

Also I think AK's get a lot of hype just because we can't have them. By no means a "POS", but you get the idea.
