Here's one of my model 60 repeaters that I tuned and painted. Stock trigger pull was 5 1/2 lb and now breaks at just under 2 lb.

I drilled and tapped it for a Weaver #2 sidemount base.

The stock is reshaped at the grip and shortened 3/4".

I sanded and applied a good thick coat of epoxy primer to everything except moving parts, followed by my first attempt at snow camo. I couldn't bring myself to paint the scope since I use it on other rifles as well, but I'm thinking some sort of velcro on fabric sleeve may do the trick. The paint job looks really tacky close up, but it seems to do the trick. Look out 'yotes!!

Incredible camo job! I had to take a double take to find it!
All I saw was the scope sitting in a tree, and I use my 42 inch flat screen as a monitor!
For camo on the scope I use to use either duck-tape or hockey tape.
Had to use a bit of solvent to get all the glue off when the tape came off but it worked for me.

When I first looked at the pics I thought that you were shooting at the scope until I went back & gave it a closer look.
 
haha took me a while to find the rifle, all I saw was the scope in a tree. I was about to ask you was sup with that... Nice job man, I might custom mine as well although I laready have a nice walnut stock on it.

Aw c'mon man. I'm standing right there in the picture in my ghillie holding the rifle. Look closer... closer. Just kidding!:p


It took me maybe four evenings to complete, one of which was with the paint brushes. I had some problems with the flat white Krylon cracking so I had to sand it down and try again with thinner coats. I've never had problems with Krylon before, but the coverage of the white was very poor so I probably put too much on at once. I'd probably try Tremclad if I were to do it again. The branches were painted on with a $17 brush assortment (suitable for acrylic) from the craft store. I used desert sand, black, white, and red Krylon sprayed into a cup in varying ratios, followed by a clearcoat. I was planning to use Endura or automotive Dupont clearcoat for durability, but I got lazy and spraybombed the clear too.

I have mixed feelings on the paint. It's quite effective functionally, but when I pick up the rifle I can't help but feel that I'm holding onto an ugly painting. I think it's growing on me though.

Zuke, thanks for the duct tape idea. Come to think of it, I have some white electrical tape that might do the trick too.

I'll see about making a little demo movie on the painting and trigger job, if you all are interested.
