Could this be true? Read this quote from Rugerforum (yes, there are other forums out there, CGNners)

In the Nov/Dec '09 issue of "Backwoods Home" magazine, Massad Ayoob writes, in his article entitled "The All American 1911 Pistol", that "Ruger is ready to introduce a low-priced, high quality 1911."

These will almost certainly have cast frames and slides. But among firearms manufacturers, Ruger has the most experience with cast steel. Got no doubts about Ruger quality, but I wonder how they will price their 1911s.

hopefully cheaper then the ARs they make

I readily believe the first part, but am more skeptical about the second. 1911 is an expensive pistol to manufacture compared to modern polymer guns, so I can't see how Ruger could make a quality unit and sell it cheap. You get what you pay for.

Ruger 1911?

Yeah, but it will be huge & clubby looking somewhat like their POS Model P90... :p

Lets see... is there anyone else out there who would like to make a 1911 style pistol?

Old Bill Ruger must be spinning in the grave. Like them or not, at least Ruger's products were different from everything else out there. Their guns were very interesting and shook things up a bit in the gun world. Now with AR versions and perhaps a 1911 coming out, they have thrown out the uniqueness in a race for the dollar.

Whats next? Ruger's version of the Python?

I like the STI product but not too keen on the "Trojan" name on that particular model either. Too condom'ish for my liking....:p

I thought the same thing:p. As for a Ruger 1911, why? How about Remington and Winchester? When does GM's version come out? They don't have one yet either.... So few companies with vision and imagination these days.

Now, if Ford produced a 1911 I'd be all over that.....

...lol...

Ruger has been cutting quality and raising prices ever since the old man left. The only ones worth having were the old designs. Ruger got into the market by providing a heavily engineered, foolproof, affordable product. His revolvers were excellent, the 77 was good, as were the red label shotguns. However, now that Ruger's prices are the same as everyone else's, the main reason for buying one is gone. Nowadays you can get a better gun for the same price.

Yes you are right, It won't take one week in the market and start another recall like the newer plastic gun, if they are not able to fix all the SR-9 problem, they don't have a chance to make atheir own 1911 work. Anyhow id they make a .22 pistil loos like the SR-9, it should sell like hotcake as they are only good at rimfire now.

This one is a rifle AR alike 10-22, we are hoping to have a .22 pistol looks like the SR-9

Yup, that's what I was referring to, a .22 cal pistol that was on the polymer frame and looked like the SR-9 pistol.

I actually didn't realize until now that there was a sr-22 that was an AR15 look-a-like based on the 10/22 rifle action....
