For those that have HK SL8s,USCs or G36s could you tell me which type of hammer you have and the Date code on the gun? I am wondering at what point they made the change, or if they only did it for specific years. My date code for my SL8 is AH = (07) 2007. the hammer that came in my SL8 was the one on the left. If you have a UMP I'd like to know what your hammer looks like also.

New style SL8 hammer on the left. HK part #217 936 (notice indent on the top left side.) SL8 hammer on the right.
Strange part is that both of these came from SL8s. I am wondering why the change. The one on the left also works in the USC. The one on the right will only work in the SL8.

SL8 with AE (2004) date code has the hammer depicted on the right of first photo.

G36 with AH (2007) date code has the hammer depicted on the left.

Are they polymer?

HK G36/SL8 hammers are polymer with embedded metal at the high wear areas.

*sigh* Now, do you have a hammer and a date code to add to the statistic, or is this going to turn into "HK sucks because their guns are plastic" thread?

CNADNSL8-5, Left hammer on the first photo has the extra notch for sear disconnect, that you need for FA operation. Just the hammer on it's own is not enough to get the thing to go FA, but that might be the reason for change from G36 compatible to dedicated SL8 hammer. Might have been a BATFE induced change (I have no illusions about volume of Canadian market).

I have an AF date coded USC, but the hammer isn't quite the same as the 3 depicted...

Its CLOSEST to the one depicted on the FAR RIGHT, but there is no bump in the middle (depicted in the second picture - the far right hammer, with the triangular shaped lug in the middle)

It DOES have the relief cut as shown in the G36 and NEW SL8/USC hammers.

Took some pics, USC trigger parts installed in a UMP semi lower.

FWIW The UMP45 hammer I got with the UMP semi lower looks identical to the G36 trigger shown.

This keep getting weirder. Now we have 3 different SL8/USC hammers with the same part number. Your USC AF date code hammer will work in the SL8 and USC.

Can you take pics of the UMP Hammer? You say it looks like the G36 one yet the part numbers are different.

Sure I can grab some pics.

Again, remember that its from a semi auto lower... I dont know if that means anything or not though, im not too familiar with the differences in internals.

Using whatever piece of metal that is from the UMP lower to prop up the hammer. There is some wear on it from prior use.

Interesting. I thought Hk had a habbit of using the same parts in multiple firearms, but usually make the part numbers the same. I wonder why they have some parts that are the same yet have different part numbers and some parts that are different yet have the same part number?

Its possible that they literally just have 2 part numbers for the same exact part. Or possibly that the hammer is slightly different internally with the G36...

I was also under the impression that the G36 and UMP used similar fire control parts, and the SL8/USC were similar also. It could be something as simple as different part numbers for each manual.

Maybe an Email to HK Oberndorf, or HK USA is in order. Im sure they would be willing to release that info to a civie.

ETA

It would appear, however, that the G36 and UMP use similar LOOKING hammers, as I cannot find any noticeable differences in their appearance.

I have an SL8-5 and it has the new SL8/USC hammer.

Left one in the first picture.
Far right one in the next 3 pictures

Coded AH Dont know what year. I bought it gently used Feb 09
