Somebody point me in the right direction ...trying to restore my M1A to OEM spec. Where are you guys getting the GI wood stocks from?. My EE AD is not yielding any results...has the tactical rail market killed wood stocks?.

finding a bolt has always been difficult, even prior to this polytech bacth and the marstar 399$ batch

I recently tossed my chu wood stock into the dishwasher, now just need to refinish it. It is probably the most cost effective way for me to improve the look at this time...

a friend does this to Norinco wood stocks; he mixes 50% varathane (oil based) to 50% paint thinner, mixes well, and saturates the stock inside and out with the mix. After drying repeat application and drying until whole stock when dry has finish above the wood.

Then sand finish down to bare wood, apply BLO (boiled linseed oil) to taste.
This makes a very nice looking stock that is much harder and rigid at the surface level.

Did you try an EE search? Try typing usgi stock as your keywords and narrow it down to the Exchange of Parts and Bits EE subforum, then set it to find posts from up to 36 months ago. I see a nice unfinished USGI Tanker's stock listed.

That would be my stock. I've had a couple tire kickers, but no takers. Not like I'm asking a kidney in exchange for it either.

I was actually considering inquiring about it a while back, but at the time, cash was tight and bills were due, so I ended up going for a well used USGI birch stock for $100. For the price, your stock looks like a pretty good deal, IMO.

USGI Stock

Hey,

I just ordered one from the states on Ebay. There are a couple of them on there right now. Make sure to send a message to the seller and ask if they will ship it to Canada. Some do some don't. I get lucky all the time with gun stuff. One is still at $0.99 US with two days to go. The other is up to $20.00 with six days to go. Just search ebay.com (US Site) for M1A stock.

Hope this helps...

Most USGI fiberglass stocks in the good old US of A are between $30 to $60 USD depending on the condition. The real USGI wood stocks are around $80 and most are in real ruff shape. Also there is alot of people on ebay that try to sell M1A stocks as M14 USGI so buyer beware. Plus if I am not mistaken isn't all USGI wood stock's have an aprovale stamp?

Most true USGI wood stocks I have had pass through my hands have a letter "P" stamped on the grip and also the Eagle cartouche stamped on left side under the elevation knob
The P stamp is a proof stamp denoteing that the stock passed service inspection
By US law any seller in the U.S. MUST have a valid export permit to ship even a stock to canada.

Well I know I would give up my Glass USGI Cadapt one if I found a minty one like the one Jeepingpw has on his M14 ...I know the glass stocks are better but I am never going to shoot this M1A anyway ....
