Winchester model 1300

The Winchester Model 1300,1200,2400 and 120 are not high quality shotguns.There are better choices in my opinion.
 
Nothing wrong with Winchester 1300 quality when compared to most of the guns in it's price range. I liked mine enough to buy another. I'll admit one needs work right now, but I think that's got something to do with a history of abuse and lack of maintenance. They all break from time to time.

As much as I like my Winchesters I do think I would use my 870 before my 1300 for home defense. (I wouldn't trust ANY gun for home defense until I had personally put it through it's paces.) Unfortunately (for people who like Winchesters) the 870 also has a lot more aftermarket parts available.
 
I love my 1300, but if your going to buy new get the Mossberg unless you can afford the Military/Police 870. Remington has three distinct 870 actions. The 870 Military/Police sells for around $900 and up. (8 shot).

The 1300 has not been produced since US Repeating Arms was closed in 2006. I suppose it may be possible to find a NOS (New Old Stock) one (any model) somewhere but I suspect your chances of winning the lottery are far better.

My 120/1300 is my goto gun. I think i bought it somewhere around 85/86.
The 1300 part is the new barrel with exchangeable choke.

Mind you the black shadow I bought is not as good but I think it is one of the last ones out the door before win USR closed.

Where to order a 870p police magnum if we can have it in Canada.They look good with the wood stock.

Lots of products don't break down from time to time.

I had a 1300 that was the biggest POS I've ever owned. The list of things that went wrong is too long for this thread I owned it for three years and it spent almost two of it at gunsmith.

Buy an 870 or a Nova, forget the POS 1300. There is a reason Winchester renamed it, terrible reputation.
 
I have a 12 ga 1200 (same gun as a 1300) i bought new in 1974, for the princely sum of $79.99. It was my only shotgun for several years, and i put 3000 rounds through it the first year - i was a duck hunting fanatic back then. It has roughly 15,000 rounds through it since and has never broke, misfed or malfunctioned. It has a bit of the blueing worn at handling points but could nearly pass for new.

I have a model 1300 20 gauge that has about 5000 rounds through it. Have taught 3 kids wingshooting on it, hunting and at the range. Never malfunctioned, still tight as new.

I have a 1200 that i bought used and cut down to 20" bbl. I have put a few thousand rounds through it, mostly slugs and buckshot, and i don't know how many rounds it saw before i got it. Guess what? - no malfunctions, no problems, still tight.

I have owned and shot a lot of different shotguns. The 1200/1300 is one of my favourites.

IMO a 1300 is as solid and reliable as the rem 870 wingmaster, and better than a 870 express and all the mossbergs, except the 590. And my opinion comes from actual use and real experience - i didn't just form an opnion based on crap i read on the internet. :);)
 
Jethunter you should buy lottery tickests you are very lucky I did both Winchesters and Remimgtons warranty work for many yrs and I can assure the number of Wins compered to Rems was probably 20 to 1 here are just a few inherent problems The screw that holds the plate to the bottom of the breach bolt would break plastic mag throats wearing out action arms breaking trigger assembly malfunctions extractors breaking . Compared to any other firearms the wins failed more often .
 
It's a matter of opinion I suppose. This debates no different than the guy who says his Ford (GM, Dodge, etc) is the toughest truck he's ever had, and the guy who says his is the biggest POS he's ever had. I like my 1300s, I feel that the one that needs repairs is in the condition it's in for a reason. Your milage may vary.

He's right. They have not made the good "Defenders" since 2006. The new ones are $hite. You get what you pay for. I have a 2006 defender, I love it, but if I had to buy one now it would be a 870 police or a Mossy 590.
 
Twice with hot turkey loads and cheap brass my 1300 has turned into a single shot. Federal flight control. Whimpy extractor tore a chunk out of the brass but left the hull in the chamber. Dead turkey both times thank god. I still love the gun and have taken lots of turkey and deer with it but it won't be around much longer. Probably gonna get an 870. (870 is the only common pump gun I haven't owned LOL)
