I've got 2 totally different questions about scopes. But i'm just going to include them in the same thread. Question number 1, Has anyone here used any of the new redfield scopes? I saw a review in guns and ammo i believe, and they spoke quite highly of it, Most surprising though was the MSRP of $150ish american. I'm looking for a decent scope for a varmint rig, either .22-250, or .223 and am considering one of these. Any opinions on this scope or any others priced similarly (as in <300ish canadian) would be appreciated.
Question number 2, i have a savage .17hmr with one of tascos .17 varmint scopes, which worked quite well until a couple months ago when it suddenly would not hold the reticle straight, i've tried tightening the rings but that doesn't seem to help, i zero it in, and a week later it's totally off, it's never been dropped or abused. What's the deal?

Throw the Tasco in the garbage. Buy something better. A Bushnell or BSA Sweet 17.

Tasco=Crap. In the $300 range I would look at the vx1 line frome leupold or the bushnell 3200 series.

I would also strongly recommend Burris in that price range. I have 2 Fullfield II scopes and for the money, I suggest it is at the top of the food chain. I have had many Bushnell scopes. They have all failed eventually. I am not a big fan of bushnell but they are cheap and you get what you pay for...

Tasco is a pretty 'iffy' scope. Glass (plastic maybe?) is not bad but overall construction is questionable... The Redfield of old was a pretty good scope, as for the new ones: No clue, but the bigger question is: Who will do warranty work on them in Canada? That's why so many like Leupold or Bushnell because they don't have to go through the hassle of shipping them across the border for work.

Redfield is now owned and operated by Leupold, although I don't know whether they'd still be able to work on it in Canada..

I used to be of the same opinion, and when my parents bought me the gun and scope as a birthday present i thought i would surely have to replace it, but right out of the box it was shooting 3/4" groups at 100yards with monotonous regularity. That was 2 years ago, but i guess nothing good and cheap lasts forever right? :kickInTheNuts:

I would throw the Tasco in the garbage, but I certainly wouldn't replace it with a BSA.

I personally would not either. I have a 4-16x40 4200 side adjust parallax on my 22lr and a 6-24x40 4200 side adjust on my .17 HMR all my center fires proudly sport Leupold glass.

I really like the 6-24x40 4200 on my .17. It is mill dot and also has hidden target turrets.
