I don't think there is a harder clay target made then the ones Lawry's makes.
The whole point of shooting clays is to break them. For that, I also think they're crap.
 
A clay target is a clay target as far as I am concerned. You put the pattern on them and they break. Lawry's have always worked fine for our club. 1200 cases on hand waiting to be be broke, or not if you miss them!

Brad, any idea on where the canadian shoot will be this year?

The most important thing is that you get the target shipment that you ordered. Not one half, not three quarters, you want the whole darn shipment that you prepaid for.
 
Complqaints about poor target breakege on Lawry targets are usualy caused by poor shooting, poor choke selection and very poor load/choke patterning! Except at the World FITASC near Prague two years's ago, there was never an issue of target quality, ever!

I wouldnt go so far as to say they are crap but yes they are HARD. Rick Lawry told me they're targets are designed to break at temperatures in excess of 70 degrees fahrenheit. Told me 80% of his sales are U.S based so targets are made for their climes.I've talked with many guys south of the border that love them. I know from our experiences here at home(we use Lawry targets as the Lawry family has been great to us in tough times at our club) in the north that they are something else to break in winter and its not due to not putting them in the pattern. You'd best be shooting 7.5 in winter here to stand a chance at breaking them, we pick up many during our annual spring clean up with several holes through them and not a crack in them. I once found one with 11 holes in it and it flew again without coming apart!! The Whyte Flyers fly a better flight due to the rounded and golf ball dimpled dome and in winter when you hit them they explode into a black ball just like summer. I believe Hummason's has them. Lou Hummason will be at the Hamilton Family Fair Shoot today and I am sure you can get them from him if you prefer to go with Whyte Flyer. The other thing for us is that Lawry are made in Canada and we like the idea of supporting home grown.

Very good comments. We shoot White Flyers when we can, but i also support Canadian made products, thus I buy Caldwell when available.
And Henry, have you every thought of maybe moving to La Quinta de la Paris de faux de Chamblis? Hitting clay targets isn't one of my weak points, so please don't assume that it might be.

I have shot in quite a few tournaments in both Canada and the US. I recall walking around the skeet fields at the Sportsman's Shooting Centre in Canton Ohio. I found many White Flyer targets on the ground with 2, 3, 4 and 5 holes in them. This was in July as well, and very warm.

My point, hit the target hard and they break. There is no difference in targets. B

By the way, it was early morning and no shooting going on while I was on my stroll, in case you were worried for my safety.
 
Our club went through a debate between White Flyer and Lawry targets. The club alternated target lots between both which gave us a good chance to compare both brands.

Lawry targets are harder. I've more of their targets unbroken but with pellet holes than White Flyer. The Lawry targets also don't break as often in the machines.

Before we switched to automatic throwers we sometimes threw our own targets off the manuals. The Lawry targets didn't fly as true as the White Flyers. When throwing targets you could see them wobble in flight.

Ultimately it doesn't matter which targets are used as long as everyone uses the same targets. Our club eventually went back to Lawry targets because they were cheaper.

"Bingo" !

Same results as at two other Clubs which tried the same ....

In the end, despite the sometimes petty "price wars", both reverted to Lawry.
Reliable, relatively "local" & better delivery/service. If hard pressed, "pick-up" at the loading dock is also an arrangeable option.
