Gas checks???

If the bl. slugs .378", I'd go .379" or .380", if the mold will drop them that wide, use a good lube, I believe the reference to BHN 25 bullets, comes from the recommendation to use Bullet Barn cast bullets. Sometimes the folks that market things never use them.

I find the bullet barn bullets do work well in my various .45-70s with smokeless loads, although I've never managed to get them to work well in my .45 colt rifle. For shooting BP, I cast my own for better quality control (and the ability to cast a softer bullet than I can buy :).

Chris.

One thing to consider if you are worried about leading is using cards.

Using disks cut from cork gasket material or even cereal boxs does much the same job as a gas check at medium velocities. Might be something to consider if you are concerned or have a favorite mold that isn't cut for gas checks.
