feel bad

Aligning your ethics to reflect the way the coyote kills is poor judgement, as predators kill in manner that suits their evolved hunting style, not in accordance with human sporting ethics. Varmints deserve the same respect as any game animal IMO.

If this were put into practice, would it not require refraining from killing coyotes unless they were for food or to prevent damage to property?

Is it ethical to kill them simply because they are a predator of other wild game?

I don't think we're talking about the ethics of killing an animal, but how we do it. My dog has been sprayed by skunks and quilled by porkies, yet I still don't think that shooting off their legs or giving them a gutshot and let them spin is the way to go.

Trying to justify an animals suffering for what they've done is pretty telling.......

Nobody was talking about the ethics of shooting animals. You're trying to steer the ship where it wasn't going in the first place. Is killing any animal ethical? Let your conscience be your guide.

If you pull the trigger on enough game you will wound some and might not get a chance for a second shot to kill it.
You will wound deer and moose and coyotes ect it is not your intent it just happens.
I believe there is no one on this site who has not had the misfortune of a blown shot.
If you feel bad maybe don't shoot at it in the first place.

Sounds like you are a good hunter. I went many years with nothing but one shot kills on deer and became too comfortable with my "abilities" and 5 years ago I wounded one that I was unable to recover. I lost a lot of sleep over it but learned to be a better hunter because of it. Mistakes will happen but follow through with your actions after the first shot.

I don't think so. I was brought up that you kill for food or for protection. If it's attacking livestock, or family, etc, or if I'm going to eat it, sure I'll kill it. I'm pretty disgusted actually by the callousness shown by alot of people here in regards to ending a life. I have hunted for 19 of my 23 years, so it's not as if I'm a bunny hugger by any means. I can't justify to myself killing an animal just because it's competition in the hunt for other animals.
Personally, you won't find me hunting coyotes or wolves unless I'm defending myself. If someone else wants to kill them, I'm not gonna stop you.

I very strongly agree with your last sentance. It actually kind of worries me that there are people out there calling themselves hunters who act and or feel that way. I certainly don't want to be associated with someone like that.

Holy Holy! Hunters kill stuff that's the game, one shot kills on the internet are all the rage,I never miss not me,Do you think one shot kills don't hurt.
Maybe don't shoot in the first place.IBTL

Coyotes dont feel bad when the rip ur dog off the end of its leash by its face and start eating it while its alive! Circle of life continues!

I believe its our responsibility to be as humane as possible in every hunting situation. You cant blame an animal for being an animal, and suggesting torture and enjoying it is just sickening. Allot of bad genes out there, pathetic indeed.

I'm with Dan on feelings wounding a coyote or wolf.
However, I have a question for you coyote hunters, Have you ever wounded a coyote and the coyote howled like a hurt dog. KYI YI, KYI YI?
Years ago I hit a coyote with a 303 British and it howled bloody murder and took to the bush. That sure shook me up, especially so, since the wife was with me!
There was a bit of snow on the ground so I went back the next day to see what happened. I was scared all night that it had been a dog I mistook for a coyote, but the wife grew up in Saskatchewan coyote country and she assured me it actually was a coyote.
Anyway, it was a coyote track with very minimal blood. It soon mixed with other coyote tracks, the bleeding stopped and I could no longer distinguish its track, to follow it.
So, do coyotes sometimes yell like a dog when they are hit? It is the only time I have ever heard it, but can't remeber wounding too many coyotes.
