I have one of the model 111 combo rifles in 300, I went and picked up some new scope mounts for putting on a new scope, (Stripped the old ones) but they don't tighten on enough and wobble a bit.

The new ones are weaver rings, does this mean my scope bases are something else and need to be replaced? Or are they picatinney not weaver?

Thanks.

I tried searching to no avail.

Do the bases wobble or the rings?
I put Burris Zee rings on the Savage bases and they wobble as they have to be big enough to slide on, but obviosuly don't when torqued down. I asked about this too.

Perhaps tell us if its the bases or rings and what make and type they are.

I have weaver rings. It is the rings that are wobbling. They don't seen to get snug enough to the bases. I tightened the ring clamp down with a big ass screwdriver but it won't go tight enough.

These are the rings I got today.

Perhaps the bases should be replaced too? Perhaps they are out of spec as it is a combo rifle.

I have the same rings on the same rifle with the original bases and they're tight as they can be.
are you sure the bases are weaver?

I'm not sure what the bases are. For the cost of new bases I might as well replace them as well. Looks like I'll be taking another trip to the gun store tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Throw the bases away and buy real Weaver bases. I have seen some of the factory Savage "weaver style" bases that were machined/cast too small. You simply could not get the rings to tighten up on them.

The bases that come with the Savage packages are not made by Weaver.

If you look at those bases they are stamped '61S'. That action uses Weaver bases #46 (I think...)

My Burris rings seem to hold onto those factory bases fine....
