Winchester model 100 308 carbine

Hey guys I got a winchester model 100 that I got from my dad as a gift and I was wondering were In Ontario I could take this for warranty work as I have been reading about this rifles history.Can I go to any gunsmith??
 
I expect that any warranty coverage on the Winchester 100 has long since expired.
The firing pin safety recall is still in place and you can take the rifle to any gunsmith who is willing to take care of it. I have heard that some individuals have taken care of the firing pin replacement themselves.
 
Seeing as the firing pin recall is now 30-40yrs old, I'm thinkin it would be a rare occurance if you found a 100 with the old two piece pin still in it!
 
they did not have a two piece firing pin the replacement took place in the late 80's early 90's I doubt if it will be honored at this time .there are still many 100's out there with there original firing pin.

The recall was Issued in 1990 and the part came out in 1991.I tried the gun out on the weekend and it slamfired..So I found the recall with goggle.I found the service centre to fix it but its a 2 hour drive away as my local gunsmith wont do it without me paying..

Long's were the Gunsmith's that did all the warranty work for Winchester, when Winchester(Cooey) was located in Cobourg. Long's actually had space i the same building. Not much in the way of Winchester/Browning problems Keith hasn't seen and/ or repaired !

W.R. Long did my recall in the early to mid 90's. After he stepped througt a door to his shop it was aprox 5 min and you could hear 3 test fire shots.I had to wait about a hour before it was my turn,the place was full of people with 100's. If you never take the bolt assembly apart or not put it back together wrong you should never have a problem?-That's my thinking about this if it holds water or not i can't say for sure.

Taking the action out of the stock, if you are able to turn the back of the firing pin completely in circles (either direction), this is the original firing pin. The replacement is flat where it goes through a pin and is unable to be turned (unless broken). I have done quite a few of these over the years and the warranty is still available.

What i found, is that only authorized gunsmith were allowed to do such fixes.
Why ?
Because Winchester supplied them a punch, so when they get the job done, they punch a letter under the action. So when oyur gun is upside down, with the clip removed, you can see this special punch mark.

Mine is still original... Not a trace of any problem.
 
That may have been the case early on in the recall but they are less stringent now. Winchester honours the work that I do and never provided me with a punch to mark the guns.
If yours has not been corrected, I suggest you get it taken care of. You may not have had any problem so far and that's good but when the day arrives that the rifle fires out of battery, you will have an exciting few seconds that will make a popular topic of conversation for days.:):)

I have heard that the old pin is thin and bends, and can cause the 100 winny to go off full auto. :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

Most often, the skirt on the pin chips or peens and lodges itself in the bolt, most times in the forward position. As Smoji pointed out, excitement! I had one so bad that I had to break the pin to get it out.
