God's country.
I have recently rekindled my M14 addiction after surfing this forum over the holidays. The EBR stocks on this site have sent me on an mistifying quest. Milarm only has the AKM billet stock at this time, no pistol grips,rear stocks etc. They also don't know when they will get any. 1 to 3 months was their best guess. Wolverine has a JAE in stock for the nominal fee of 1649.00. However if I wish to order one the way I want it will take 3 months to get. Fabsports has Troy stocks but are presently out of stock. However they will have some in perhaps in a week or so. This is turning into a scene from O Brother, Where Art Thou? When Cloony tried to order some Dapper Dan hair cream! So 1) Some guidence on which stock is favoured? 2) What Canadian suppliers are out there, or is what I know it. 3)What is the story on Troy stocks? The question being on importation? 4) Are Canadians limited to certain stocks? and 5) Where can one buy a good barrel to have shortened? Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

You're not alone in your quest. I've been trying to find Sage International stocks for a while now. The company has a Canadian distributor, but I haven't been able to get in touch with them yet.

1)USGI fiberglass stock, cheap, better than the norinco
2)as argubin said, there is a rumor about a canadian dealer
3)What story do you want to hear about Troy stocks?, fabsports.ca stocks them as you pointed out
4)you can have whatever stock on the m14 you want, as long as it doesn't turn it into a bullpup gun
5)Obtuned (account name on CGN, otherwise known as Adams Lake rifle barrels) is the canadian importer for Krieger barrel who make match barrels including the m-14 platform in many contours. Otherwise you can have your own barrel cut, crownd and rethreaded from a competent gunsmith or buy a norinco barrel used on the EE here and have it go through the treatment (though I am not sure why you would want to do that, unless your current barrel is bent 90degrees.

I contacted sage international and they said that their canadian distributor was Nuguns@shaw.ca I contacted them via email asked if they had a web site and what their prices were, what they had in stock etc. Their reply was short and not informative. Basically, they put me on an email list and would let me know when they get some stock in. Not encouraging. I think I'll just order one from sage and pick it up in the usa when I"m down there next.

Your not alone!! I've sent repeated emails to the Canadian sage Distributor with no response what so ever.

Makes you wonder who this distributor is and how he/she managed to get the rights in the first place if he/she has no will to distribute said product. Can you tell I'd like to get one also?

I'm supposedly on the same waiting list at Nugun. Now when talking to Sage yesterday (06 Jan/10) the representative pulled the file and told me that they hadn't heard from them in a while. Several months apparently. She said that she'd try to contact them and find out what's going on and pass my contact information to them. She sounded pretty surprised when she pulled the file. As far as picking one up from Sage when you go to the states, they don't have a storefront.

I'm still working on a plan B...

My idea

deleted...you can not export a SAGE without an export licence....see the many threads on this. It has nothing to do with importing into Canada but rather export out of the US....

if I wanted to put a folding stock on a sage which model would be best. THe EBR or the CQB?

I'd suppose it depends on what you're planning on doing with it. If you want to just stick with iron sights, and supply your own M4 style butt, then go with the CQB. I'm personally hoping to get my grubby paws on the ALCS model because of the adjustable cheek rest which I find almost essential when dealing with optics.

The fact that all I see of www. m14. ca is a front page with a whole bunch of 404 error-ed links does not really give me confidence. At the very least they need a COMING SOON! page to make the pages look minimally complete.

Thanks for the input and info fellas, greatly appreciated! I'm still researching the issue and will update anything i find. I've narrowed it down to 2 systems, a troy and a sage. The question I had about troy stocks was based on what a dealer told me about not being able to import them. My reply was fabsports, their reply was you take your chances. I'm not sure what that means nor did I ask what they meant. At any rate, thanks again.

It's basically comes down to what you want to do with your gun. If you want a run and gun platform and can't get a Vltor;

Then go for the Troy;

Now if you want a tacticool sniper rig then it's the sage all the way;

PM H20 Man for all the in's and out's on this system and how the US is using this as there DMR platform now. But if it was me & I am a very picky prick I would get a custom rig built excatly how I want my rifle to be set-up & the only person I know in Canada that make's these custom rig's is M14Doctor;

But be prepared to wait because any way you look at it, it's going to take time.

If you're still looking for an EBR stock without the wait try TSE in Calgary. I don't know if they still have them, but they did have some in stock July/09 when I was in there.

I can think of a number of good reasons. Perhaps the user dosen't need additional rails all over the place. Maybe they prefer butt that adjusts up and down. However it all boils down to personal choice.

Why would you get the Vltor over the Troy?
I tried them both and found that they were way lighter (Although the Troy is better balanced) and it was less cluttered. Plus I don't like the top rail on the Troy & the butt stock assembley was a way better design on the Vltor. Too each there own though, as these are just my like's & dis-like's.
