Tavor TAR21 LOP reduction idea...

It still has the steel reinforcement moulded in? I can not see plastic alone surviving the recoil.
Very hard to describe on the forum, but AFAIK all plastic, and is more than strong enough. In the same way the plastic butt plastic on any AR rifle is strong anough.

I would be up for a shorter LOP, and I would be willing to pay a few more bucks to have something with rubber against my shoulder, but I am not interested in using anything of the "slip on" design.

The sell for me is not the LOP, but the reduction in overal length!

You'll need more than an inch....

To what? Lop another inch off the Tavor in order to compare that 18" barrel to the 10-12" on that AR? Nice try though.

Polymers are a broad catagory, there are polymers that exceed the strength characterisstic of many aluminums and in certain applications are much more resilient. P-Mags being a good example.

In the case of the TAR21 I believe the metal frame has more to do with the cushy rubber and cost then strength.

Look at the collapsible stocks on 30 Cal ARs, all the recoil force is directed at one small portion of the stock and it holds up just fine. FYI most collapsible AR stocks are made from a some very cheap polymers.

:p I'm just trying to cool off my Tavor envy.... never mind me.

I thought the pic was a neat side by side visual comparison just the same and does show a what the delta is between the LOP of a Tavor and a compressed AR stock.

When I say recoil, from the carrier hitting the buffer, all held in by the but plate.

I will have to discuss it with the engineer but I think a 60% LSGF reinforced PA66 will handle the pounding. Either way the replacement if we make one will likely be 7075-T6 anyhow. I have no doubt that an aluminum replacement will take the pounding.

any thoughts on making an extended mag release? I can hit the release now simply by opening my hand wide, but it's a bit of a stretch. an extra half inch would speed up the mag change that little bit more.

I don't think its gonna happen man. Better start growing your arms for that extra inch.

Also: I know this is a zombie thread, but I could see serious problems with extending the mag release any further. Like catching it while on the move and suddenly losing your mag!
