This is one of those issues that angers me. Not that he got shot, that they are allowed almost limitless hunting rights. I was born a Canadian and do not get these rights, and they are born Canadian and do. What is teh justification now in 2010 that status natives should have these rights. Is their "Heritage" more important then mine?

Check your family tree, maybe you have Metis ancestry, then you can have similar rights,at least in MB and AB.

I do , Indian 10 % + French 40 %+ Scottish 50 % = 100 % Scottish :D

Momma always told me...."if you have nothing nice to say,...say nothing at all." :)

And I'm sure I would get an infraction. ;)

You say this like aboriginals have some sort of social advantage over you. Even with these "unlimited" hunting rights would you seriously trade shoes with a aboriginal from a remote northern community?

If you ever spent more than 5 minutes in a average remote northern aboriginal community I could guess the answer to that question.

That argument falls flat on its face. This is about government assistance and legal rights, not about social standing. Last I heard, natives have the same rights and privileges as I do to move locations and to become educated (which is even subsidized!!) and work. Too bad most of them choose not to exercise those rights...

Racial discrimination of legal rights and government assistance has NOTHING to do with poor living circumstances. Just ask the people living in dumpsters in the downtown centers of every large Canadian city. Just to give you an idea, most of them are NOT native.

Hmmm, I am Metis, maybe I should move to Manitoba. And I guess I better get some kind of night sight for my 348 if I am going there.....NOT!!! Yes I am Metis, no I do not poach. Ticks me off that so much is gotten away with in this day and age. And sorry I don't go for the remote northern plea either! Like anyone else in this nation opportunity to advance oneself and look after oneself in a continually changing country and world gives each and every one of us the opportuinity to go where we deem necessary to pursue a better life. It's just too easy to sit back and say oh poor me, I live so far from anywhere you should support me. Sorry this is the 21st century, get off your lazy _ _ _ , take some pride in yourself and support yourself! All I can say to this thread is good, one more poacher out of the picture. Too bad they hadnt had a firefight and wiped each other out completely! Yes it will make statistics for us legitimate hunters look real bad as usual. B_ _ _ _ y shame!:bsFlag:

When one has no job opportunities in the area they're in, they move to where the jobs are. The programs and educational opportunities are available.

It's not an argument rather a legitimate question that I will pose to you or anyone else who is not native and has been to a remote northern aboriginal community. Would you trade shoes??

And who's fault is that? Just like any other form of welfare, handouts do not build a community.

No, I wouldn't. They built the ####hole they live in, nobody's fault but their own. When I worked for a local engineering firm, I was involved in drafting the new school for Isle La Cross. They didn't even finish building it before they needed to start replacing windows. Who's fault is that?
I'm going to quit before I get an infraction, but I will leave you with this.
Natives in Canada have every opportunity to improve their lot in life. It involves getting off your ass and working.

As per Manitoba Hunting Guide:

Status Indians May Not
"discharge a rifle or shotgun at night where it is dangerous to do so."

You got to be kidding, who is the brain dead that wrote that. Shooting a rifle that goes 5 miles at night is ok unless it is dangerous to do so? Where is the common sense in that and when would it not be dangerous.

It was an accident nothing more

Don't put down night hunting as mentioned already if done right and safely there is nothing wrong with it.

Most if not all wild boar hunting in most of Europe is done at night, with lights, and or NV scopes, this is because the boar come out at night to eat the crops, and you will not find them during the day, as they are mostly sleeping.....

It's funny how we can at times be our own worst enemies, and make it easy for others to take away even more of what little we have.
