I have my eyes on my a No 1 Mk 3 Sporter that has an attractive price tag. Good bore, 25 inch barrel. I am wondering how easy it is to acquire the appropriate parts to restore the rifle to full military configuration ? If so, what are the best places to look since Springfield sporters is no a go.

I also do not deal with Enfields as my primary interest is Mausers. What type of parts would I need to restore it in general ?

I am in the process of acquiring pictures.

Thanks guys.

It is a fun project to do.

I picked up a sporter for $125 which was a true tack driver. I then went about buying the wood furniture, sling, bayonet and missing hardware. I now have a fully restored Lee that would stand up in competitive shooting.

I now want to pick up a Mauser, Schmidt, Moisin... I think I've been bitten!

I started looking for parts for a 1918 on myself. You can sometimes fing stuff on ebay. Seen complete wood sets but you are paying for it. Last one I saw a couple days ago went for over $170 but that was high. I would get yourself a book that tells you the dissasembly and parts breakdown that way you can see what parts you need to get. You will probably need wood, nose cap, barrel band, sling swivel, various nuts, bolts, screws. Try ebay, local gun shows, gunsmiths, the bits exchange forum on this site.

Thanks. I have ordered from Numrich before, it doesn't matter if you order a barrel for $100 or a screw for $1.50, you have to tack on $25 handling fee and then shipping.

There is a thread in Marstar's dealer forum. They just bought a warehouse full of Lee Enfield goodies in Greece including unissued wood and parts, and the stuff is apparently on its way over here. I might not be able to resist getting a Bubba SMLE and restoring it.
