Corlane brake

Quiet brake? Such a thing is a virtual impossibility.

Whoever is making this claim is talking directly out of their ass. And clearly has no clue how to properly sound test a firearm.

Maybe you should read the thread and the comments from those who have actually been there [experienced shooters] before making a blanket statement. Eagleye.

I have spent the last 5 or 6 years testing sound testing firearms and silencers with some of the most knowledgible people on the earth. A couple of half deaf yokels who spent too much for some snake-oil product and then have a vested interest in thinking that "it works really well" in order to justify their purchase don't really compare to properly collected scientific data.

The fact that the seller quotes SPL's that are ridiculously low tells me all I need to know. They are either completely full of it, making up numbers out of thin air or haven't got a clue how to properly sound test a firearm. Either way their claim of a "quiet brake" is total and utter BS.

Your way or the highway eh?
There was a time when these new-fangled repeating rifles were too complicated to stand up to constant use. Just sayin.

Your way or the highway eh?

If you went to buy a subcompact car and the sales guy told you it would do 200 mph, 0-60 in 2 seconds all while hauling 3 tons of bark mulch and getting 150 mpg would you believe it?

If I told you the sales guy was full of #### would you say "Your way or the highway"?

I have nothing against innovative design. In fact I am involved in it myself. However I have personally sound tested firearms to the requirements of Mil Std 1474D and can assure you that the claims for the device under discussion are a complete fabrication.

So if you think I am full of #### then go buy one of these things and find out for yourself. If you think it is possible to direct sound at a sound meter without increasing the sound level then I have a bridge to sell .... cheap

You know Srupp and boo.??? You feel the need to insult them personally??? Have you tested or ever even seen the product???

I'd be interested if they do work.

Call me a simple minded redneck, but from what I see all muzzle brakes work by deflecting gases back towards the shooter. Maybe not directly back, but in order for the jet effect to work, the gases must be diverted somewhere other than straight out the muzzle, AWAY from the shooter. Any direction that is not straight away is therefore more directed AT the shooter which will increase the muzzle blast.

But hey, if guys can be convinced that you can cut flutes in a barrel and make it stiffer and thus more accurate, who am I to keep some shops from making a living selling snake oil! ;)

Well sunshine I will tell you one thing ................ I really don't give a s**t what you think or don't think.

I don't have any need to prove or justify anything to anyone. My thoughts on this mechanical device are stated on the original thread.

Somebody send one to Suputin to test. He is certainly a credible source to determine how loud the brake is.

:agree:

I too would like to see some actual scientific data on any brake design that does not make the sound signature louder at the muzzle.
Having personally designed several brakes and having made hundreds of them, if there is some better design about, I would love to see it, in hopes of improving on my own brakes.
Having used some of Vais's "quiet brakes" and finding that the difference between a "quiet brake" and a normal brake requires sensitive equipment to differentiate the difference makes me skeptical, but open minded.
