Hello all....

Ok. Firstly I would like to ask... what makes these rifles so much more valuable? How many did Longbranch actually make? Did they ever make No.I Mk.III's? Are these rifles superior? What made them better machining? What?
 
They were made in Toronto, Ontario I believe. I think they only made No 4 Mk 1 and No 4 Mk 1 *.

If you are Canadian and you have a choice on one Enfield, would you want a Canadian made and issued or a British made and issued Enfield ?
 
Long Branch (as it's written on the rifle's receivers) rifles are considered by many to be of finer fit and finish than No 4 rifles made in England and the USA. My personal attraction to these rifles is that they are Canadian made and I collect Canadian militaria. I personally like the looks of the No 4 rifle and especially when fitted with an attractive set of wood furniture I think it is one of the best looking military rifles of the 20th century. Beats the hell out of some of that Eastern block junk.
 
Yeah I would love to get my hands on a nice 1950 Longbranch No.4. I have a Savage No.4 right now but I'd give it up in a heartbeat for a Longbranch.
 
In my opinion having owned the various manufactures. The No.4's manufactured by Long Branch are of a higher quality than those of their British and American counterparts. They definitely do have a finer fit and finish. Plus they are Canadian eh
 
Long Branch rifles are popular here for the same reason Savage No.4's are popular in the States. They were better finished than wartime Brit No.4's, of course. No reason that shouldn't be so, no bombs falling on the factory! In my experience, though, Lithgow SMLE's were of better quality than any No.4's, and post war No.4 Mk.2's from Fazakerly are also better.

I lived nearby when I was a kid... We'd explore around the old "Canadian Small Arms" property... Often we'd find bits of spent brass and other odds and ends or evidence of the place's old purpose...

I used to see the factory there for years. It was still in operation making parts for the FNC1 and Sterlings I believe. Then the Post Office started operating out of the building. Then it was gone...:mad:

BTW, I don't know why it's called Long Branch. The factory was in Mississauga at the bottom of Dixie Rd....unless it was Long Branch at that time and then Mississauga annexed the area or something?

It should have been made into a museum with the machinery intact. Damn shame. :(

Was it not within the neighborhood known as Long Branch?
